Brake Shoe Assembly

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 35 other vehicles, including the 1992 Pontiac Trans Sport, 1992 Oldsmobile Silhouette, 1992 Oldsmobile Bravada, 1992 GMC Yukon, and 1992 GMC Vandura Special. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Some "C" and "K" Series vehicles are equipped with leading/trailing brakes, identified by adjuster screw hole in backing plate, located above horizontal centerline of rear axle. All other "C" and "K" Series vehicles and all other models are equipped with dual-servo brakes, identified by adjuster screw hole at bottom of backing plate.

Brake assembly consists of backing plate, brake shoes, return springs, automatic adjusting assembly and a wheel cylinder.

Automatic adjusting assembly consists of an actuator lever, return spring, actuator link, adjusting screw and spring. Automatic adjustment is accomplished through movement of actuating lever and secondary shoe.
