Gauge Reading Is Inaccurate

Check wiring for corroded or loose connections. Clean and tighten as required. If wiring and connections okay, remove fuel gauge sending unit. Using an ohmmeter, test sending unit resistance. See the FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE table.
If sending unit values are correct, disconnect front body wiring harness connector at engine firewall. Connect Gauge Tester (J-24538-A) to terminal No. 30 (Purple wire). Turn ignition on. If gauge reads accurately when connected to Gauge Tester, check wiring between fuel tank and front connector.
If gauge reads between 1/4 and 1/2 full with tester set at 90 ohms, replace fuel gauge.
