Piston & Connecting Rod Assembly: Installation

  1. To install, lubricate all internal surfaces with engine oil before installation. Ensure mark on piston head faces front of engine and connecting rod oiling hole is toward intake side of engine. Use ring compressor to compress rings, without changing ring gap position. Install piston and connecting rod assembly into cylinder block in original position.
  2. Tap lightly on piston dome with wooden hammer handle while guiding connecting rod onto crankshaft. Install rod cap onto proper piston and connecting rod assembly. Tighten attaching bolts to specification. Install cylinder head and oil pan.
