Cylinder Head: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner and suction pipe for air injection. Disconnect flex hose at exhaust manifold and O2 sensor. Disconnect exhaust pipe. Disconnect spark plug wires at spark plugs.
- Disconnect thermostat housing at cylinder head. Remove distributor from cylinder head. Disconnect all vacuum hoses to components on intake manifold and cylinder head. Disconnect fuel lines. Disconnect wire connectors. Disconnect throttle cable.
- Disconnect power steering belt. Support engine. Remove right side motor mount and bracket at front cover. Disconnect A/C and alternator belts. Align timing marks.
- Remove timing belt cover. Loosen timing belt tensioner pulley. Remove timing belt from camshaft timing pulley. Remove alternator bracket bolt at intake manifold. Remove power steering mounting and through bolts.
- On carburetor models, disconnect heater hose to intake manifold and carburetor fuel line at fuel pump. Remove fuel pump. Remove rocker cover. Remove cylinder head bolts in proper sequence. See Fig 1 . Remove cylinder head.
