Valve Seats

  1. Exhaust valve seats require the use of 3 cutters. To prepare the valve seat for final machining, 15 degree and 75 degree cutters are used. The third cutter or grinding wheel is used to produce the desired seat width at a 45 degree angle.
  2. Intake valve seats use the same sequence as exhaust valve seats, except the second cut is at a 60 degree angle. Lap valves on seats in 2 steps. Use a coarse lapping compound, followed by lapping with a fine compound.
