Instrument Panel - Electronic: Testing: Tachometer

  1. If either bar graph or the number display does not work properly, replace the instrument panel. If both bar graph and the number display do not work, remove White wire connector from distributor.
  2. Connect Instrument Panel Tester (J-33431) between White wire connector of distributor and ground. Set tester controls to "ON" and "54 MPH". The tachometer should indicate 900 RPM. If tachometer indicates correctly, wiring and indicator are okay. Repair or replace distributor.
  3. If tachometer reading is incorrect, check White wire for an open. If wire is okay, replace instrument cluster.
