Camshaft: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Engine.
2. Valve lifters.
3. Timing cover.
4. Timing chain and sprocket.
5. Camshaft.

CAUTION All camshaft journals are the same diameter and care must be exercised in removing camshaft to avoid damage to bearings.

INSPECT
^ Camshaft, camshaft bearings, and lifters.

INSTALL OR CONNECT


CAUTION Whenever a new camshaft is installed, coat camshaft lobes with GM E.O.S. (p/n 1052367) or equivalent.
1. Lubricate camshaft journals with engine oil.
2. Camshaft.
3. Timing chain and sprockets.

Tighten
^ Bolts to 20-27 Nm (15-20 ft. lb.)
4. Timing cover.

Tighten
^ Bolts.
- M8X1.25 18-24 Nm (13-18 ft. lb.)
- M10X1.5 27-41 Nm (20-30 ft. lb.)
5. Lifters.
6. Engine.

INSPECT
^ Proper fluid levels.
^ Leaks.
^ Completion of repair.
