Valve Guides

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1990 Suzuki Swift, 1990 Suzuki Sidekick, and 1990 Suzuki Samurai. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check valve stem clearance. If clearance exceeds specification, replace with oversize valve guide. Use Valve Guide Remover (09916-46010) to drive old guide out.
  2. Ream guide bore in cylinder head with 12 mm Reamer (09916-37310) for SOHC engines and 11 mm Reamer (09916-38210) for DOHC engines. Heat cylinder head to 176-212°F (80-100°C).
  3. Install new oversize guide in head. Valve guide protrusion is .55" (14.0 mm) for SOHC engines and .91" (23.1 mm) for DOHC engines.
  4. Using Valve Guide Installer (09917-88210) for SOHC engines or (09916-56020) for DOHC engines, drive in new valve guide until valve guide installer contacts cylinder head.
  5. Ream valve guide with Reamer (09916-34520). Clean valve guide bore after reaming. Install valve and ensure clearance is correct.
