Oil Pressure Gauge Diagnosis

  1. Disconnect oil pressure sender connector in engine compartment and connect tester (J-33431). Turn ignition on. Set resistance controls to the values shown in OIL PRESSURE SENDER TEST VALUES  table.
  2. If gauge responds correctly, replace sender. If gauge responds but not accurately, go to step 4). If gauge does not respond, disconnect oil pressure sender lead at engine harness connector at bulkhead. Connect tester to lead that goes to gauge.
  3. If gauge responds to tester accurately, check wiring between sender and engine harness connector. If gauge does not respond, go to step 4).
  4. Remove cluster. Check for proper voltage and resistance readings, faulty printed circuit or instrument cluster connection. See VOLTAGE AND RESISTANCE CHECK charts. If readings are okay, replace cluster. If voltages or resistances are bad, repair connection or wire to sender and reinstall cluster.
