Passenger Car Rear Axle Identification (Excluding Corvette)

Axles are manufactured by Chevrolet Buffalo, Chevrolet Gear & Axle, Oldsmobile, and GM of Canada (McKinnon). Divisional Manufacturer code letters will be metal stamped on the axle tube adjacent to the carrier for field identification (see example). Letters and numerals 1/4" high are metal stamped on right front inboard side, 3" outboard of carrier or are located on a metal tag attached to cover bolt.
