Camshaft Removal

NOTE: In some models it will be necessary to remove engine from vehicle before camshaft can be removed. If camshaft is to be removed with engine in car, remove radiator and grille, then remove engine front cover (see "Engine Front Cover Removal"). Remove valve cover and gasket, and pivot rocker arms clear of pushrods. Remove distributor (note position of rotor). Remove coil, side cover, pushrod, and lifters. Remove camshaft thrust plate screws (work through holes in camshaft gear). Remove camshaft and gear assembly from engine. CAUTION Support shaft to prevent bearing damage. When installing new camshaft, add 16 oz. can of Engine Oil Supplement to crankcase and pour 2-3 oz. of supplement directly onto camshaft. Apply a suitable heavy duty lubricant to foot of each valve lifter.
