Side Bearing Preload (Pontiac & Oldsmobile)

Place differential case in carrier with outer races in position, Obtain a slip fit between carrier and side bearings by adding.170" spacer and steel shims to original shim pack measurements, Slip fit will be no preload, or point at which bearings have no play or no drag.
