High/Low Shift Components Cleaning and Inspection

  1. Inspect all components or sub-components and perform any repair procedure necessary to fix the damage. If the damage cannot be repaired, replace the component or sub-component as indicated.
  2. Clean all components in cleaning solvent and air dry.
  3. Inspect the transfer case high/low clutch inner splines (1) for excessive looseness on the rear output shaft.
  4. Transfer Case High/Low Clutch Teeth (2) - Inspect for chipped teeth, excessively worn gear surfaces, and debris embedded in the root of the teeth.
  5. Transfer Case High/Low Shift Fork Collar (3) - Inspect for chipped teeth, excessively worn gear surfaces, and debris embedded in the root of the teeth.
  6. Inspect the transfer case high/low shift fork pads (4) for wear.
  7. Inspect the transfer case high/low shift fork (5) for cracks, broken areas, or other damage. The component must be replaced if damage is found. High/Low Shift Fork Replacement 
  8. Inspect the transfer case control actuator shaft (6) splines for excessive wear. The component must be replaced if damage is found. High/Low Shift Fork Replacement 
  9. Inspect the transfer case control actuator shaft (7). Witness marks at the location of the splines is normal.
  10. Inspect the transfer case actuator shaft gear teeth (8) for chipped teeth, excessively worn gear surfaces, and debris embedded in the root of the teeth.
  11. Inspect the transfer case high/low shift fork pin (9) for wear. The component must be replaced if damage is found. High/Low Shift Fork Replacement 
  12. Inspect the transfer case high/low shift fork spring (10). Inspect the cam lobes for wear or roughness. The component must be replaced if damage is found. High/Low Shift Fork Replacement 
  13. Inspect the transfer case shift fork spring (11) for breakage. The component must be replaced if damage if found. High/Low Shift Fork Replacement
