Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Cadillac XT6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise the transmission with the transmission jack and position the transmission to the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  2. Install the 2 transmission bolts (1, 2) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

  3. Install the 3 transmission bolts (1, 2, 3) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).
  4. Remove the transmission jack.
  5. Align the mark of the flex plate to the mark on the torque converter for reassembly.

    NOTE:

    If reusing the torque converter bolts, clean the threads and apply threadlocker to the threads prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  6. Install the torque converter bolts (1) and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft),
  7. Install the starter. Starter Replacement (LGX)Starter Replacement (LSY)
  8. Using the engine support fixture raise the powertrain into place.
  9. Install the left transmission mount to the transmission. Transmission Mount Replacement (Left Side) Transmission Mount Replacement (Front) 
  10. Install the front transmission mount to transmission bolts. Transmission Mount Replacement (Left Side) Transmission Mount Replacement (Front) 
  11. Connect the front wheel drive half shaft to the transmission. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side
  12. Connect the side front wheel drive shaft to the transmission. Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side (FWD with LGX)Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side (FWD with LSY)
  13. Install the drivetrain and front suspension cradle. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation
  14. Install the transmission mount strut bracket to the transmission. Transmission Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (All Wheel Drive) Transmission Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Front Wheel Drive) 
  15. Remove the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture

  16. Install the 3 transmission bolts (1, 2, 3) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

  17. Position the auxiliary water pump (2) to it's original position.
  18. Install the auxiliary water pump bolt (1). Auxiliary Water Pump Replacement (LGX)
  19. Connect the transmission fluid cooler outlet pipes to the transmission fluid cooler. Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement (With V08)Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement (Without V08)

  20. Position the harness as necessary then install the 2 wiring harness retainers (4).
  21. Connect the transmission input speed sensor connector (3).
  22. Reposition the transmission wiring harness bracket (2) as necessary.
  23. Engine Wiring Harness Transmission Clip Nut (1) - Install and tighten 9 N.m (80 lb in)

  24. Connect the control valve body transmission control module electrical connector (1), then clip the wiring harness to the cover.

  25. Position the wiring harness bracket (5) to the transmission.
  26. Clip the 4 engine wiring harness retainers (2) to the wiring harness bracket.
  27. Connect the electrical connector (3) to the transmission.
  28. Install the body wiring harness bracket bolt (1) and tighten to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
  29. Connect all the remaining electrical connectors to the transmission.
  30. Clip the all the remaining engine wiring harness retainers to the transmission.
  31. Connect the electronic transmission selector manual park release cable to the transmission. Electronic Transmission Range Selector Manual Park Release Cable Replacement 
  32. Install the battery tray. Battery Tray Replacement
  33. Fill the transmission with correct fluid. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  34. Check transmission fluid level. Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check
  35. If a NEW TCM has been installed into the vehicle, the NEW module needs to be reprogrammed. Service Programming System (SPS)
  36. Reprogram the transmission. Q77 Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Characterization Programming
  37. Road test the vehicle.
