Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  2. Remove the J-21366  Converter Holding Strap from the transmission bell housing.
  3. Install the transmission to the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] 58 N.m (43 lb ft)

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Install and tighten58 N.m (43 lb ft)

    Transmission Stud (1) - Install and tighten [2x] 58 N.m (43 lb ft)

  7. Connect the transmission vent hose to the engine.
  8. Transmission Mount - Install - Transmission Mount Replacement (RWD) 
  9. Align the torque converter to flex plate orientation marks made during the removal procedure.

    NOTE:

    Torque converter bolts are self-locking and must be replaced with NEW torque converter bolts every time the bolts are removed.

    Complete the following steps for all torque converter bolts (1):

    1. Rotate the harmonic balancer center bolt clockwise ONLY, to align the torque converter bolt holes in the flexplate with the starter opening in the engine block.
    2. Install 6 NEW torque converter bolts (1) and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).

    Install the transmission close out plug (1).

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] 58 N.m (43 lb ft)

    Transmission Stud (1) - Install and tighten [2x] 58 N.m (43 lb ft)

  14. Remove the transmission jack.

    Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter (1) - Install - Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement

    Connect the electrical connector. (1)

  17. Install the retainers. (2) [4x]
  18. Starter - Install - Starter Replacement (LSY) , or Starter Replacement (LGY) , or Starter Replacement (LT4)
  19. Engine Coolant Heater Exhaust Pipe - Install - Engine Coolant Heater Exhaust Pipe Replacement
  20. Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe - Install - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LGY) , or Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LSY Auxiliary Water Pump Inlet Pipe to Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose) , or Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LSY Engine Block to Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve)
  21. Install the propeller shaft. Propeller Shaft Replacement (without LT4) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (with LT4, MJK) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (with LT4, MHX)
  22. Check the transmission fluid level and fill if necessary. Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check
  23. Lower the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  24. Perform the solenoid control valve characterization programming. Q77 Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Characterization Programming
