Removal Procedure

Transfer Case Assembly (2) - Remove - Transfer Case Assembly Replacement
- Remove the starter. Starter Replacement (LSY) , or Starter Replacement (LGY) , or Starter Replacement (LT4)
- Engine Coolant Heater Exhaust Pipe - Remove - Engine Coolant Heater Exhaust Pipe Replacement
- Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe - Remove - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LGY) , or Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LSY Auxiliary Water Pump Inlet Pipe to Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose) , or Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LSY Engine Block to Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve)
Repeat the following steps for all torque converter bolts (1):
- Rotate the crankshaft balancer center bolt clockwise ONLY, in order to align the torque converter bolt with the starter opening.
- Torque Converter Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [6x]
Disconnect the electrical connector. (1)
- Release the retainers. (2)
Remove the transmission close out plug (1).
- Mark the torque converter to flex plate orientation to ensure proper realignment.
- Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter - Remove - Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement
Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]
Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove
Transmission Stud (1) - Remove [2x]
Transmission Stud (1) - Remove
Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
- Disconnect the transmission vent hose from the transmission.
- Pull the transmission straight back.
- Install the J-21366 Torque Converter Holding Strap onto the transmission bell housing to retain the torque converter.
- Remove the transmission from the engine.
- Transfer components as necessary.
- Inspect the transmission fluid cooler, hoses, and pipes for leaks or damage. Replace as necessary.
