Cleaning and Inspection Procedure - Required
- NOTE:
Do not soak or submerge the fuel pump in solvent.
Clean the fuel pump (2) and valve lifter follower (5).
- Dry the fuel pump and valve lifter follower with compressed air.
- Inspect the fuel pump for the following conditions:
- Damage to the connection ports (1)
- Damage to the electrical connector (2)
- Damage to the sealing surface (3)
- Damage to or a bent or binding plunger (7)
- Damage to the mounting holes (8)
- Inspect the valve lifter follower for the following conditions:
- A scored or worn fuel pump contact surface (4)
- A severely scuffed or worn body (5)
- Binding or roughness of the roller (6)
- If any of the above conditions exist, replace the fuel pump and/or the valve lifter follower.
- Clean the fuel injector bores.
- NOTE:
Do not soak or submerge the fuel rail or injectors in solvent.
Clean the exterior of the fuel rail (1) with a clean cloth and solvent.
- Inspect the fuel rail and components for the following conditions:
- Damage, debris or restrictions to the fuel rail
- Damage, debris or restrictions to the fuel ports in the fuel rail
- Damage to the mounting area for the fuel rail
- Damage to the fuel rail mounting bolts or mounting bolt grommets/isolators
- Damage to the threads on the fuel rail feed fitting
- Damage to the threads in the fuel pressure sensor bore
- Damage to the fuel pressure sensor connector, threads, or sealing face
Inspect the fuel injectors for the following conditions:
CAUTION:The fuel injector must be cleaned with the proper cleaning equipment. DO NOT use abrasive cleaning methods, such as a metallic brush, to remove deposits. Cleaning an injector with improper tools will damage the fuel injector.
- Damage to the fuel injector connector (1)
- Damage to the fuel inlet (2)
- Damage to the sealing surface on the fuel injector (3)
- Damage to the fuel injector body (4)
- Damage to the fuel injector tip (5)
- Replace the fuel rail or injector if any damage is found. Do not attempt to repair a fuel rail or injector.
