Cleaning Procedure

    WARNING:

    Refer to Safety Glasses Warning .

  1. Clean the oil pump bore and the sealing location for the oil pump flow control solenoid valve. Ensure there is no debris left in the oil pump bore.
  2. NOTE:
    • General Motors strongly recommends using a plastic razor blade, plastic gasket scraper, a wood scraper or a non-metallic scraper to remove all sealer/gasket material on the surface of engine components that are to be reused. Do not use any other method or technique to remove the sealant or the gasket material from a part.
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
    • Do not gouge or scratch any engine sealing surface during the cleaning process.
  3. To remove the RTV from the oil pan, wipe the surface dry with a clean shop towel, spray Low VOC Brake clean on the sealing surface and allow the cleaner 5 minutes to penetrate the RTV to loosen.
  4. Clean out debris from the bolt holes.
  5. Let the oil pan air dry.
  6. Spray Low LOC brake cleaner on the lower crankcase extension sealing surface and wipe off with a clean shop towel. Avoided touching the surface after cleaning and air dry with shop air.
