Installation Procedure

    Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

  2. Clean the engine block sealing surface and ensure the bolt threads are free of RTV and debris prior to RTV bead application.
  3. Clean the lower crankcase extension housing and ensure the housing is free of oils and finger prints prior to RTV bead application.
  4. NOTE:

    DO NOT allow the RTV to skim over, the crankcase extension housing must be installed within 8 minutes of RTV being applied.

  5. Apply a 4 mm bead of sealant (1) to the crankshaft rear oil seal housing.
  6. Apply 6 mm bead of sealant to the locations indicated, dimension a.

    Lower Crankcase Extension (1) - Install

  8. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution

  9. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (3) - Install and tighten [5x] - Fastener Specifications
  10. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [10x] - Fastener Specifications
  11. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (4) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Mount Bracket (1) - Install

    Engine Oil Cooler Coolant Inlet Hose (3) @ Engine Oil Cooler - Install

  26. Hose Clamp (1) - Engage [2x] - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

    NOTE:

    Balancer shaft driven sprocket is keyed to fit one way on the balancer driven shaft.

    Install the balancer chain and balancer shaft driven sprocket to the balancer driven shaft.

    1. Ensure the marks on the balancer driven shaft (2) face each other.
    2. Align the double yellow links (4) on the balancer shaft chain to the double timing marks on the balancer shaft driven sprocket (3).
    3. Align the pink link (1) to the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket (5).

    Balancer Shaft Sprocket Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Balancer Chain Guide (3) - Install

  30. Timing Chain Guide Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    If the balancer chain tensioner (1) needs to be assembled, install the check ball spring (2), plunger orifice (3), main spring (4) and the plunger (5). then install the EN-955-10-A  Locking Pin to reset the tensioner.

    NOTE:

    Ensure that the sealing surface is clear of oil, grease and old sealant material.

    NOTE:

    Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    NOTE:

    The rear oil seal housing must be installed within 8 minutes of applying the RTV sealant application.

    Apply a bead of room temperature vulcanizing sealant (1) as shown. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    Leave the seal protector that ships installed onto the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing on.

    Install the NEW rear crankshaft rear oil seal housing (2) until the seal protector is flush with the end of the crankshaft.

  39. Press the center of the crankshaft NEW rear oil seal housing in, allowing the crankshaft to push out the seal protector.
  40. DISCARD the seal protector.
  41. Once the NEW rear oil seal housing is completely seated, inspect the seal around the crankshaft to ensure it has not folded over itself.

    Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [14x]

  44. Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [14x] - Fastener Specifications

    Crankshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install

    Oil Pump Suction Pipe Gasket (3) - Install NEW

    Wipe the oil pan surface with the Adhesion Plastic Pan Primer Promoter using a clean shop towel. Allow the cleaner to flash / evaporate. Wipe off the sealing surfaces with a lint free cloth. Do not touch the sealing surface after cleaning to avoid inducing containment debris to the bonding surface area. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  53. Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
  54. NOTE:

    Do not allow sealant to skim over, the oil pan must be installed within 8 minutes of sealer application.

  55. Apply a 3 mm bead of sealant (1) around the seal bead path, as shown.

    Install EN-52483  Cover Installation Guide Pins in two locations to keep oil pan square and aid in alignment.

  57. Oil Pan (1) - Install NEW
  58. NOTE:

    Install some lower oil pan bolts to secure the oil pan.

  59. Lower Oil Pan Bolt (2) - Install and hand tighten [4x]
  60. EN-52483  Cover Installation Guide Pins - Remove [2x]
  61. NOTE:

    Install the remaining lower oil pan bolts.

  62. Lower Oil Pan Bolt (2) - Install and hand tighten [16x]
  63. Lower Oil Pan Bolt (2) - Tighten in sequence - [20x] Fastener Specifications

    Flywheel Locating Pin (2) - Install

  65. Crankshaft Position Sensor Reluctor Ring (1) - Install

    Automatic Transmission Flex Plate (2) - Install

  67. NOTE:

    Install NEW bolts. Do NOT reuse old bolts.

  68. If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
  69. Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten [8x] - Fastener Specifications

    Remove the EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool

  71. Install the drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (AWD) , or Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (RWD)
  72. Install the transmission. Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive) , or Transmission Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive)
