Removal Procedure

  1. Battery Negative Cable - Disconnect - Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  2. Remove the oil fill cap.

  3. Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
  4. Lift up on the front of the intake manifold cover (2).

  5. Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Remove

  6. Use a suitable tool to rotate the drive belt tensioner (1) counterclockwise to relieve tension from the accessory drive primary belt (2) and hold.
  7. Accessory Drive Primary Belt (2) - Remove
  8. Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

  10. Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Remove [5x]

  11. Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Retainer (2) - Remove [2x]

  12. Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Remove
    NOTE:

    Quantity of fasteners may vary based on option content.

  13. Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Remove
  14. Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (3) - Remove

  15. Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (3) - Remove
    NOTE:

    Quantity of fasteners may vary based on option content.

  16. Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Remove
  17. Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (1) - Remove

  18. Front Compartment Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Remove [6x]
    NOTE:

    Quantity of fasteners may vary based on option content.

  19. Front Compartment Air Deflector (1) - Remove
  20. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (L3B Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (L3B GE 47716)
  21. Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

  22. Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage [2x] - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
  23. Engine Oil Cooler Coolant Outlet Hose (2) @ Engine Oil Cooler - Remove
  24. Engine Oil Cooler Coolant Inlet Hose (3) @ Engine Oil Cooler - Remove

  25. Engine Oil Cooler Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  26. Engine Oil Cooler (1) - Remove
  27. Engine Oil Cooler Seal (2) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]
  28. Reposition any hoses that will impede the removal of the starter.

  29. Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable Terminal Nut (1) - Remove
  30. Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (2) - Reposition away
  31. Retainer (3) - Disengage

  32. Starter Stud (1) - Remove
  33. Starter Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]
  34. Reposition the starter to gain access to the electrical connections.
  35. Battery Positive Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Solenoid - Remove

  36. Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (2) - Remove
  37. Electrical Connector (4) - Disconnect
  38. Starter (3) - Remove

  39. Set the timing pin feature in the retracted position from the engaged position by pulling back and twisting the handle (1) 90 degrees.
    NOTE:

    The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The pin must be placed in the retracted position before torque is applied to the flexplate.

  40. Install the EN-52476  Flywheel Holding Tool (2) through the starter mounting hole.

  41. Crankshaft Balancer Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD
  42. Crankshaft Balancer (2) - Remove
