Installationl Procedure

NOTE: Lubricate under the washer surface.
  1. Lubricate the camshaft sprocket bolts (1) with clean engine oil where indicated. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    NOTE: Replace the one camshaft sprocket bolt that is required.
  2. Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten

  3. EN-52436 Timing Chain Tensioner Retention Tool (1) @ Timing Chain (2) - Remove

  4. Take tension off the actuator that is required for the specific camshaft sprocket bolt that is being replaced and to loosen the tension of the timing chain
    NOTE: Only do the side that is being replaced
    1. Turn the exhaust side counter clockwise to 6 N.m (53 lb in) and tighten bolt (3) just enough to hold the EN-52461-1 Holder in place.
    2. Turn the intake side counter clockwise to 6 N.m (53 lb in) and tighten bolt (2) just enough to hold the EN-52461-1 Holder in place.
    CAUTION: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution
  5. Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

  6. Bolt (1, 2) - Loosen
  7. Slide the 2 EN-52461-1 Holder (3) out of the camshaft sprockets.

  8. Loosen the 2 bolts (1, 4) of EN-52461-100 Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5).
  9. Remove the EN-52461 Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5) along with the 2 EN-52461-100 Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2, 3) from the engine.
  10. Remove the EN-52462-A Camshaft Tool (1) by rotating the levers in direction of arrows.

  11. Loosen and disengage the bolt (2) from EN-52462-A Camshaft Alignment Tool (1).

  13. Clean and apply sealant to the camshaft cover opening plugs (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  14. Camshaft Cover Opening Plug (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

  15. Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Reposition
  16. Retainer (1) - Install [3x]
  17. Clean all sealing surfaces.

    NOTE:
    • The timing chain upper cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the timing chain upper cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The timing chain upper cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
  18. Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in) bead of RTV (2) in the middle of both sides between the camshaft housing and the cylinder head T joint. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  19. Check that the 2 Pins (1) are in the camshaft housing or in the timing chain upper cover.

  20. Timing Belt Front Upper Cover Seal (1) - Install NEW
  21. Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Install

  22. Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt - M6 (3) - Install and tighten in sequence - Fastener Specifications
  23. Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt - M5 (2) - Install and tighten in sequence [11x] - Fastener Specifications

  24. Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW
  25. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  26. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Fastener Specifications

  27. Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW
  28. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  29. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Fastener Specifications

  30. Engine Wiring Harness (3) - Reposition
  31. Retainer (1) @ Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Engage [6x]
  32. Connect the 2 electrical connectors to the camshaft position actuator valve solenoids.

  33. Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (2) - Install
  34. Connect the quick disconnects (1) and install the 2 retainers (3). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
  35. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    NOTE: The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle (1) and twisting to locked position. The slide part (4) to be installed to the flex plate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.
  36. EN-52476 Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2) - Remove

  37. Starter (3) - Install
  38. Starter Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  39. Starter Stud (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  40. Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (2) - Install
  41. Battery Positive Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Solenoid - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  42. Electrical Connector (1) - Connect

  43. Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (3) - Install
  44. Battery Negative Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Stud - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  45. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) - Engage [2x]
  46. Lower the vehicle.

  47. Oil Level Indicator Tube Seal (2) - Install NEW
  48. Oil Level Indicator Tube (1) - Install

  50. Electrical Connector (1) @ Oil Level Indicator Tube (3) - Clip

    NOTE: Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.
  53. Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1).
  54. Install the oil fill cap.
  55. Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
