Hydraulic Brake System Flushing
WARNING:
- Inspect the brake fluid for fluid separation
contamination indicated by the following conditions:
- Swirled appearance - oil-based substance.
- Layered appearance - silicone-based substance.
- Swollen master cylinder reservoir cap diaphragm and reservoir-to-master cylinder grommets - oil or silicone-based substance.
- Inspect the brake fluid for fluid discoloration
contamination indicated by the following conditions:
- Cloudy appearance - moisture.
- Dark appearance/suspended particles in fluid - dirt, rust, corrosion, brake dust.
- If the brake fluid demonstrates fluid separation
contamination, perform the following:
- Flush the system by bleeding all hydraulic circuits until the fluid becomes clear at each respective bleeder valve. Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (JE5) , or Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (J55)
- Remove ALL of the following components from the vehicle and clean or replace as necessary.
- Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement
- Brake Master Cylinder Replacement - With Power Brake Booster and Electronic Brake Control Module
- Front Brake Hose Replacement (JE5) , or Front Brake Hose Replacement (J55)
- Rear Brake Hose Replacement
- Front Brake Caliper Replacement (JE5) , or Front Brake Caliper Replacement (J55)
- Rear Brake Caliper Replacement
- Brake System Control Module Replacement
- If the brake fluid demonstrates fluid discoloration contamination, replace the brake master cylinder reservoir cap.
- Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the maximum-fill level with approved brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Pressure bleed the hydraulic brake system. Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (JE5) , or Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (J55)
