Checking After market Accessories

Do not connect aftermarket accessories into the SIR circuits, all such circuits are indicated on circuit diagrams with the SIR symbol.

Always check for aftermarket accessories (non-OEM) as the first step in diagnosing electrical problems. If the vehicle is so equipped, disconnect the system to verify that these add-on accessories are not the cause of the problems.

Possible causes of vehicle problems related to aftermarket accessories include:

• Power feeds connected to points other than the battery
• Antenna location
• Transceiver wiring located too close to vehicle electronic modules or wiring
• Poor shielding or poor connectors on antenna feed line
• Any Non OEM device (s) connected into the OEM wiring.
• Check for recent service bulletins detailing installation guidelines for aftermarket accessories.

The following Items are some examples of aftermarket equipment or accessories than may affect the vehicle's durability, features, function, handling and/or performance of safety and driver assist systems:

• Cell Phone, Laptop, GPS chargers etc.
• USB cords.
• Vehicle Tracking systems i.e. insurance monitoring devices, company trackers etc
• Any items connected to the ALDL (data Link Connector) or vehicles Electrical system
• Toll pass devices or other transponder devices
• Engine performance tunes/tunners
• Wheels and/or Tires
• Suspension system modifications i.e. lift kits leveling kits, wheel offset
• Trailer brakes controllers or other add on trailer devices i.e. Non-OEM cameras Non-OEM TPM systems.
• Add on camera systems
• Add on Park assist systems
• Fender extensions/flares
• Licences plate brackets
• Window tint/Windshield banners
• Vehicle wraps
• Non OEM windshields, bumpers, brackets, body panels etc
• Any Non OEM device or components that are not approved by General Motors Corporation.

Vehicle's Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) (If Equipped) 

The overall integrity and performance of a vehicle's Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) is dependent on maintaining the design specifications of each component of the safety system. After market or non-Genuine parts and accessories, reconditioned or salvage parts may have different material or dimensional specifications than what was designed, tested and validated for use with Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) and are not approved for use by General Motors.

Examples of Advance Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) include, but not limited to:

Obstructing ADAS Sensor Areas (radars, cameras, etc.) 

The overall operational integrity of Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) features is dependent on maintaining its inherent design specifications. The use of After market or non-Genuine parts and accessories in ADAS sensor areas including but not limited to the front bumper, front grill, below the front grill, license plate covers, headlamps, windshield, front and rear side panels, mirrors, rear camera lens, and rear bumper area is not recommended due to the potential for degradation of ADAS feature functionality.

Addition of protective covers, protective film, decorative / cosmetic wraps, stickers, window tint, magnets, hood protectors, push bars, bicycle racks, cargo racks, light bars, oversized roof cargo can all adversely affect ADAS system feature performance.

Vehicle Modifications 

Non-Genuine lift / lowering kits, wheel rims and tires, suspension / steering and other components or modifications that impact ride height, alignment angles and vehicle dynamics / handling are not recommended. Covering or any modification to the windshield blackout is not recommended. Any of these types of modifications are not recommended due to the potential for degradation of ADAS feature functionality.
