Cleaning and Inspection Procedure - Conditional
The following cleaning and inspection and/or overhaul steps are ONLY to be performed as determined necessary based on the condition of the part being removed with the intention of reinstallation. The labor time to perform any of these steps is not included in the base labor time and if required would need to be documented and submitted as Other Labor Hours for warranty claim reimbursement. A description of the repairs performed must be documented in the technician correction comments.
Clean the engine oil cooler coolant passages and connection ports of dirt, debris or blockage.
- Clean the engine oil cooler (1) in solvent.
- Dry the engine oil cooler with compressed air.
- Inspect the engine oil cooler for the following conditions:
- Damage to the mounting holes (2)
- Damage to the coolant passages (3)
- If any of the above conditions exist, replace the engine oil cooler.
Clean the oil pump suction pipe with solvent.
- Dry the oil pump suction pipe with compressed air.
- Inspect the oil pump suction pipe for the following conditions:
- Damage to the oil pump mounting boss (1) for possible leakage paths.
- Damage to the exterior case (2) for cracks, imperfections or damage.
- Damage to the intake port (3) for blockage, foreign material, cracks or damage.
- Damage to the mounting bolt hole (4) for cracks, imperfections or damage.
- If any of the above conditions exist, replace the oil pump suction pipe.
- NOTE:
Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
Remove any old thread sealant, gasket material or sealant using EN-28410 Gasket Remover.
- Clean out debris from the bolt holes.
- Clean the lower crankcase extension in solvent.
- Dry the lower crankcase extension with compressed air.
- Inspect the lower crankcase extension for the following conditions:
- Damage to the lower crankcase extension upper mounting holes (1)
- Damage to the lower crankcase extension sealing surface (2)
- Damage to the mounting bosses (3)
- Gouges or damage to the lower crankcase extension to transmission sealing surfaces (4)
- Damage to the positive crankcase ventilation tube (5)
- Damage to the lower crankcase extension lower mounting holes (6)
- Damage to the oil pan mating surface (7)
- Damage to the balancer shaft bearing surfaces (8)
- Damage to the engine oil cooler seal area (9)
- Damage to the oil level indicator tube surface (10)
- If any of the above conditions exist, replace the lower crankcase extension.
