Installation Procedure
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
- NOTE:
- The crankshaft rear oil seal housing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- Install and align the crankshaft rear oil seal housing to the block within 8 minutes after applying the sealer.
- The crankshaft rear oil seal housing must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes after applying the sealer.
Set the crankshaft rear oil seal housing on the back side to apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the crankshaft rear oil seal housing. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Locating Pin (1) - Install [2x]
- Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing (2) - Install
- Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (3) - Install and tighten in sequence [14x] - Fastener Specifications
Crankshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install
- Crankshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- CAUTION:
Do not allow the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring to come into contact with external magnetic fields or sharp metal objects. Do not drop the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. Do not damage the rubberized encoder track. Failure to follow these precautions may cause damage to the component.
NOTE:Ensure that the flywheel locating pin (2) sits in the correct holes in the crankshaft and the crankshaft position sensor inner exciter ring.
Flywheel Locating Pin (1) - Install
- Crankshaft Position Sensor Inner Exciter Ring (2) - Install
- Clean the 8 flex plate bolt hole threads in the crankshaft.
- NOTE:
- Check the flex plate for damage before installation.
- Check the guide pin for correct seat in the crankshaft.
Automatic Transmission Flex Plate (1) - Install
- Check that guide pin (2) is in the correct hole of the automatic transmission flex plate.
- Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (3) - Install, but do NOT tighten [8x]
EN-52476 Flywheel Holding Tool (1) - Install
- Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (2) - Tighten [8x] - Fastener Specifications
- EN-52476 Flywheel Holding Tool - Remove
- Transmission - Install - Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive) , or Transmission Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive)
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check the transmission fluid level. Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check
Connect the battery. - Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection

This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
