Removal Procedure

WARNING:

Refer to SIR Warning .

CAUTION:

If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

CAUTION:

Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.

  1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling

    Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Nut (1) - Remove [2x]

  3. Instrument Panel Lower Airbag - Driver Side (2) - Remove
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    With a flat bladed plastic trim tool, start at the front and work your way back to release the clips.

  6. Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover - Left Side (1) - Remove

    Disconnect the hood primary latch release cable end retainer from the hood primary latch release cable handle (1).

    Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator Retainer (1) - Remove

  9. Instrument Panel Insulator Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]
  10. Instrument Panel Insulator Nut (3) - Remove [2x]

    NOTE:

    Use a plastic trim tool if necessary.

    Release the tabs from the instrument panel lower trim panel insulator (1).

    Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator (1) - Remove

  13. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Move the steering column up so you can access the lower left corner of the instrument panel center trim pad (1).

  15. Start with a flat - bladed plastic trim tool in the lower left corner of the instrument panel center trim pad (1) and work your way clockwise.
  16. Instrument Panel Center Trim Pad (1) - Remove
  17. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Data Link Connector Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

  19. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bolt (2) - Remove [3x]

    Release the clips with a suitable tool.

  21. Disconnect and reposition harness as necessary.
  22. Clear the instrument panel knee bolster deflector studs when removing the instrument panel knee bolster (1).

    Pull the windshield garnish moldings (1) rearwards to release the tether from the A pillar.

  24. Access the windshield garnish bolt (2) which is located on the backside of the windshield garnish moldings (1) and secures the tether to the A pillar.
  25. Windshield Garnish Molding Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]
  26. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  27. Windshield Garnish Molding (1) - Remove [2x]

    Using a flat - bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

  29. Instrument Panel Extension (1) - Remove
  30. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Instrument Panel Instrument Cluster Hood (1) - Remove

  32. Extend the steering column to its furthest point to allow the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover to clear the instrument panel.

    Using a small plastic trim tool, separate the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) from the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover.

    NOTE:

    Instrument panel steering column upper trim cover is removed for graphic clarity.

    {If equipped} Disconnect the electrical connector (1)

    Using a small plastic trim tool, separate the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) from the instrument panel steering column opening closeout (2).
