Installation Procedure
With the aid of an assistant, install the instrument panel carrier (1) into the vehicle.
- Connect and position the wiring harness.
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Instrument Panel Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [18x] - Fastener Specifications
Instrument Panel Compartment Air Duct - Outer (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Center Air Outlet Duct Retainer (1) - Install [2x]
Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Duct - Right Side (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Duct Retainer (1) - Install
Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Duct - Left Side (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Duct Retainer (1) - Install
Connect the electrical connector.
- Instrument Panel Lower Center Trim Panel (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connector.
- Hazard Warning Switch (2) - Install
- Firmly secure the hazard warning switch (2) straight forward and ensure it is fully seated.
- Hazard Warning Switch Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connector.
- Heater and Air Conditioning User Interface Control (2) - Install
- Heater and Air Conditioning Control Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Instrument Panel Trim Plate (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Center Air Outlet Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- Connect the electrical connectors.
Front Floor Console (1) - Install - Front Floor Console Removal and Installation (with M5N) Front Floor Console Removal and Installation (with MQA)
Steering Column (1) - Install
- Steering Column Nut (2) - Install and hand tighten [4x]
- Steering Column Nut (2) - Tighten in sequence [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Connect the steering column electrical connectors.
- Align the relationship marks made between the steering column and the upper intermediate steering shaft during removal.
Fully connect the upper intermediate steering shaft (2) to the steering column.
- Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) @ Steering Column - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Bolt (1) - Install [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the device used to prevent steering column rotation.
Prepare the steering wheel bolt (1) for installation as follows:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Steering Wheel (2) - Install
- Steering Wheel Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connector.
- Install any connector position assurance (CPA) devices or secondary locks.
- Steering Wheel Airbag (2) - Install
- Steering Wheel Airbag Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Install the 2 steering wheel airbag access hole covers.
- If equipped, install the fuse for the steering column lock control module. The fuse is found in the instrument panel fuse block and is labeled ESCL. Electrical Center Identification Views
Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique - Right Side (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Bolt @ Instrument Panel Carrier (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel - Right Side (1) - Install
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connectors.
- Instrument Panel Airbag Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
Instrument Panel Trim Pad (1) - Install
Connect the electrical connectors.
- Instrument Panel Compartment (1) - Install
Instrument Panel Compartment Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [5x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connector.
- Instrument Panel Lower Airbag - Passenger Side (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connectors.
- Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator (1) - Install
- Install the front edge of the front floor console extension panel into the instrument panel lower trim panel insulator (1).
Instrument Panel Insulator Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Unlock and lower the body control module bracket (2).
- Connect the electrical connectors.
- Close and lock the body control module bracket (2) into the instrument panel lower trim panel insulator.
- Body Control Module Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover (1) - Install
Connect the electrical connectors.
- Radio Control (2) - Install
- Radio Control Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Instrument Panel Radio Front Trim Plate (1) - Install
Instrument Panel Radio Front Trim Plate (1) - Install
Connect the electrical connector.
- Radio Front Center Speaker (2) - Install
- Radio Front Center Speaker Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Radio Front Center Speaker Grille (1) - Install
Instrument Panel Upper Bracket (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Upper Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connector.
- Instrument Cluster (2) - Install
- Instrument Cluster Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Install the instrument panel upper trim panel and instrument panel trim plate applique assembly (3).
- Instrument Panel Outer Upper Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Bolt @ Instrument Panel Carrier (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Clip the instrument panel steering column opening closeout (2) to the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1).
Secure the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) to the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover.
Instrument Panel Instrument Cluster Hood (1) - Install
Connect the electrical connector.
- Instrument Panel Extension (1) - Install
Connect the electrical connectors.
- Windshield Garnish Molding Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Align the retainer clips with the slots in the A pillar and press the windshield garnish moldings (1) into place.
- Windshield Garnish Molding (1) - Install [2x]
Connect and position the wiring harness.
- Instrument Panel Knee Bolster (1) - Install
Data Link Connector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connector.
- Instrument Panel Center Trim Pad (1) - Install
- Return the steering column to its original position.
Connect the electrical connector.
- Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator (1) - Install
Install the tabs into the instrument panel lower trim panel insulator (1).
Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator Retainer (1) - Install
- Instrument Panel Insulator Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Instrument Panel Insulator Nut (3) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Attach the hood primary latch release cable end retainer to the hood primary latch release cable handle (1).
Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover - Left Side (1) - Install
Connect the electrical connector.
- Instrument Panel Lower Airbag - Driver Side (2) - Install
- Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Enable the SIR System. SIR Disabling and Enabling .
- Center the steering angle sensor. Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
- If the battery was disconnected for steering column replacement, wait for all modules to fall asleep. This can be done by closing all vehicle closures (doors, trunk, hood) and waiting for three minutes without actuating any vehicle functions or pushing any buttons.
- Perform functionality check of tilt and telescoping features.
Support the steering column while installing the steering column nuts.
The anti - rotation pin must be removed from the steering column before installing the steering wheel. Ensure that the steering wheel bolt is torqued to specification during steering wheel installation. Over torquing the steering wheel bolt can result in damage to the steering column rivets which will disable the telescoping mechanism. If the steering column rivets are damaged, a new steering column must be installed.
