Installation Procedure

    Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear (3) - Install

  2. CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

  3. Steering Gear Bolt (2) - Install NEW [2x]
  4. Steering Gear Nut (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]

    CAUTION:

    Use caution when removing components surrounding the Steering Gear Boots. Avoid tool contact with the steering gear boot and clamps. Damage to the steering gear boot may lead to dirt and water contamination in the steering gear rack and components requiring a preventable replacement of the Steering Gear and its Components.

    NOTE:

    The front stabilizer shaft insulators are NOT serviceable. Do NOT transfer the insulators.

    Front Stabilizer Shaft (3) - Install

  6. Front Stabilizer Shaft Clamp (2) - Install [2x]
  7. NOTE:

    The 4 front stabilizer shaft insulator clamp nuts (1) are to be tightened with the vehicle at ride height.

  8. Front Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Clamp Nut (1) - Loosely install [4x]

    CAUTION:

    Phenolic spacer must be present to prevent galvanic/corrosive reaction and/or excessive temperature conduction between engine mount bracket and engine mount. Replace mount if phenolic spacer is missing or damaged. Failure to ensure phenolic spacer is intact and not damaged can lead to premature failure of engine mount and/or engine mount bracket.

    Inspect each engine mount to ensure the phenolic spacer (1) is in place and not damaged.

    With the aid of an assistant, carefully lower the body onto the drivetrain and front suspension cradle. (1)

  11. Install any harness retainers to the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.
  12. Ensure the following components are clear from the drivetrain and front suspension cradle:
    • Vacuum lines
    • Steering knuckles
    • Electrical wiring harnesses
    • Oil cooler lines

    CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

    Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Rear Bolt (2) - Install NEW and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications 

  14. CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

  15. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Front Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications 
  16. Remove the EN-39580  engine support stand from under the vehicle.
  17. Lower the vehicle.

    Engine Mount Nut-Left Side (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Mount Nut-Right Side (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Install the stabilizer shaft link to the stabilizer shaft on the left and right side.

  21. Install the stabilizer shaft link nut (1) to the left and right side stabilizer shaft link and tighten to Fastener Specifications

    Connect the electrical connectors (1) to the engine mounts.

    { If equipped } Charge Air Cooler Bracket (2) - Install

  24. Charge Air Cooler Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Install a portion of the front wheelhouse liner if equipped with a engine auxiliary radiator.

  26. Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [5x] - Fastener Specifications 
  27. Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (2) - Install

    Front Crossmember Brace-Left Side (3) - Install

  29. Front Crossmember Brace Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications 
  30. Front Crossmember Brace Nut (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (1) @ Front Wheelhouse Liner (2) - Install

    Front Crossmember Brace-Right Side (3) - Install

  33. Front Crossmember Brace Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications 
  34. Front Crossmember Brace Nut (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (2) @ Front Wheelhouse Liner (1) - Install

    { If equipped } Front Crossmember Brace (2) - Install

  37. { If equipped } Front Crossmember Brace Nut (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications 
  38. Remove the support on the radiator.

    Connect the steering gear electrical connectors. (1)

    Mid Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @ Intermediate Steering Shaft - Install

  41. Prepare the mid intermediate steering shaft bolt (2) for installation as follows:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
  42. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (2) @ Intermediate Steering Shaft - Install - Fastener Specifications
  43. Remove the device preventing the steering column from rotating.

    CAUTION:

    Ensure the Outer Tie Rod Boot is not twisted or deformed during assembly. If the boot is twisted or deformed, damage to the boot will occur.

    Install left and right steering linkage outer tie rods (1) at the left and right steering knuckles.

    NOTE:

    Install and tighten the left and right steering linkage outer tie rod nuts (1). Fastener Specifications

    Front Lower Control Front Link (1) - Install

    CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

    Front Lower Control Arm Front Bolt (2) - Install NEW

  48. Front Lower Control Arm Front Nut (1) - Install
  49. Front Lower Control Arm Front Bolt (2) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

    NOTE:

    Do NOT allow the ball stud to rotate while tightening the nut.

    Front Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Front Lower Control Rear Link (3) - Install

  52. CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

  53. Front Lower Control Arm Rear Bolt (2) - Install NEW
  54. Front Lower Control Arm Rear Nut (1) - Install
  55. Front Lower Control Arm Rear Bolt (2) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

    NOTE:

    Do NOT allow the ball stud to rotate while tightening the nut.

    Front Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Steering Gear Bolt (2) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Front Compartment Air Deflector (1) - Install

  61. Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector (1) - Install

    Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [10x] - Fastener Specifications

    Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Screw (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Retainer (2) - Install [2x]

  70. Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [5x]
  71. Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  72. Lower the vehicle.

    With the vehicle at ride height, tighten the 2 left stabilizer shaft insulator clamp nuts (1). Fastener Specifications
