Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  2. NOTE:

    Leave the oil filter in place, or oil will continue to drip.

  3. Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (RWD) , or Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (AWD)

    NOTE:
    1. Do not pry on the oil pan to LCE as the sealing surface will become damaged.
    2. Use the lower oil pan bolts in the provided jack screw (threaded inserts) in the oil pan. Tighten the jack screw by hand 1 to 2 turn each uniformly and move to the next screw until the oil pan has full separation from the LCE.

    Lower Oil Pan Bolt (1) - Remove [18x]

  5. Lower Oil Pan (2) - Remove

    Electrical Connector (1) @ Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve - Disconnect

  7. Electrical Connector (2) @ Engine Oil Level Indicator Switch - Disconnect
  8. Retainer (3) - Unclip [2x]
  9. Engine Oil Level Indicator Control Module Wiring Harness (4) - Position aside

    Positive Crankcase Ventilation Oil Separator Drain Pipe (1) - Remove

    Oil Pump Screen Bolt (1) - Remove

  12. Oil Pump Screen (2) - Remove
  13. Oil Pump Suction Pipe Gasket (3) - Remove and DISCARD

    Balancer Shaft Access Hole Nut (1) - Remove

  15. Balancer Shaft Access Hole Washer (2) - Remove
  16. NOTE:

    Rotate and tilt the balancer shaft access hole plate as necessary to remove through the access hole.

  17. Balancer Shaft Access Hole Plate (3) - Remove

    EN-52442  Balance Shaft Holding Tool (1) - Install and hand tighten

  19. Use the crankshaft balancer to rotate the engine until the balance shaft weights contact the EN-52442  Balance Shaft Holding Tool (1).
  20. Slide the wedge of the EN-52442  Balance Shaft Holding Tool (2) to the balance shaft weights and tighten the EN-52442  Balance Shaft Holding Tool thumb screw (3) to hold the balance shafts in position.

    Balancer Shaft Housing Bolt - (2) Remove [7x]

  22. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (3) - Remove
  23. Remove the balancer shaft lower housing and oil pump as an assembly (1).

    Oil Pump Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]

  25. Oil Pump (2) - Remove
  26. Oil Pump Gasket (3) - Remove and DISCARD

    Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Bolt (1) - Remove

  28. CAUTION:

    After removing the oil pump flow control valve, ensure the entire valve has been removed and there is no debris left in the oil pump bore. Failure to ensure the oil pump bore is free from debris may result in engine damage.

    NOTE:

    The engine should be allowed to cool for 2 hours, or until the pump is near ambient temperature or there is a high risk of breaking the oil pump flow control solenoid valve off in the bore when attempting removal.

  29. Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve (2) - Remove
  30. Oil Pump Locating Pin (3) - Remove [2x]
  31. Oil Pump Seal (4) - Remove and DISCARD

    Oil Pump Drive Shaft (1) @ Oil Pump (2) - Remove

  33. Transfer components as necessary.
