Installation Procedure

  1. GM5299250

    Align the splines of the oil pump drive shaft (1) to mesh into the oil pump vane rotor (3).

  2. CAUTION:

    Ensure the splines on the oil pump drive shaft are properly aligned to mesh into the oil pump vane rotor during oil pump drive shaft installation. Excessive force on the oil pump driveshaft during installation into the oil pump may result in damage to the oil pump vane rotor.

  3. Oil Pump Drive Shaft (1) @ Oil Pump (2) - Install

    Oil Pump Locating Pin (3) - Install [2x]

  5. Oil Pump Seal (4) - Install NEW
  6. Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve (2) - Install
  7. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  8. Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Oil Pump Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  10. Oil Pump (2) - Install
  11. Oil Pump Bolt (1) - Install [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  12. Lubricate the bearings inside of the balancer shaft lower housing with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Install the balancer shaft lower housing and oil pump as an assembly (1).

  14. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt - Install and tighten (3) - Fastener Specifications
  15. Balancer Shaft Housing Bolt (2) - Install [7x] - Fastener Specifications

    Loosen the EN-52442  Balance Shaft Holding Tool thumb screw (3), then slide the wedge of the EN-52442  Balance Shaft Holding Tool (2) away from the balance shaft weights.

    NOTE:

    Tilt the balancer shaft access hole plate to install through the access hole, then rotate it clockwise until it stops.

    Balancer Shaft Access Hole Plate (3) - Install

  19. Balancer Shaft Access Hole Washer (2) - Install
  20. Balancer Shaft Access Hole Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Oil Pump Suction Pipe Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  22. Oil Pump Screen (2) - Install
  23. Oil Pump Screen Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Positive Crankcase Ventilation Oil Separator Drain Pipe (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  25. GM5443240

    Retainer (3) - Install [2x]

  26. Electrical Connector (1) @ Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve - Connect
  27. Electrical Connector (2) @ Engine Oil Level Indicator Switch - Connect
  28. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  29. Spray Low LOC brake cleaner on the LCE sealing surface and wipe off with a clean shop towel. Avoided touching the surface after cleaning and air dry with shop air.
  30. Wipe the oil pan surface with the Adhesion Plastic Pan Primer Promoter with a clean shop towel. Allow the cleaner to flash / evaporate. Wipe off the sealing surfaces with a lint free cloth. Do not touch the sealing surface after cleaning to avoid inducing containment debris to the bonding surface area. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the lower oil pan. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:
    • The engine block lower structural extension surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the oil pan to the block within 10 minutes after applying the sealer.
    • The oil pan must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes after applying the sealer.

    Install the EN-52483  Guide Pins (1) in two locations to keep oil pan square.

  33. Lower Oil Pan (2) - Install
  34. Lower Oil Pan Bolt (3) - Install and tighten in sequence [18x] - Fastener Specifications
  35. Remove the EN-52483  Guide Pins (1).
  36. Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (RWD) , or Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (AWD) 
  37. Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  38. Perform the engine oil life reset. GM Oil Life System Resetting (With Scan Tool) , or GM Oil Life System Resetting (Without Scan Tool)
