Installation Procedure

  1. GM5375584

    Using the DT-52905  Output Seal Installer - RH (2), install the NEW rear axle shaft seal (1).

  2. GM5355064

    Rear Axle Shaft Clip (2) - Install NEW

  3. Using the appropriate tool, install the rear axle shaft (1)

    Install the rear wheel drive shaft (1) onto the rear axle shaft.

    NOTE:

    The rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer (2) and washers (1) are serviced as a rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer kit consisting of 2 bolts and 1 washer.

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  6. Install 3 NEW rear wheel drive shaft flange washers (1).
    7. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .

  7. Install and tighten the 6 NEW rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainers (2) in a crisscross pattern. Fastener Specifications

    Catalytic Converter Gasket (2) - Install NEW

  9. With the aid of an assistant, install the exhaust muffler (1).

    Exhaust Muffler Hanger Bracket Nut (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Electrical Connector (1) - Connect

    Electrical Connector (1) - Connect

    Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Rear Muffler Insulator-Right Side (2) - Install

  14. Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Intermediate Pipe Insulator-Right Side (2) - Install

    Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Rear Muffler Insulator-Left Side (2) - Install

  16. Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Intermediate Pipe Insulator-Left Side (2) - Install

    Exhaust Pipe Clamp (1) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

  18. GM5865265

    Catalytic Converter Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Floor Panel Reinforcement (2) - Install

  20. Floor Panel Number 4 Cross Bar Reinforcement Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

    Underbody Front Air Deflector- Left Side (5) - Install

  22. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Bolt- Left Side (4) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  23. Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Bracket Bolt- Left Side (3) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  24. Underbody Front Air Deflector Nut- Left Side (2) - Install and tighten [5x] - Fastener Specifications
  25. Underbody Front Air Deflector Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

    Underbody Front Air Deflector- Right Side (5) - Install

  27. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Bolt- Right Side (4) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  28. Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Bracket Bolt- Right Side (3) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  29. Underbody Front Air Deflector Nut- Right Side (2) - Install and tighten [5x] - Fastener Specifications
  30. Underbody Front Air Deflector Bolt- Right Side (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

    Underbody Rear Air Deflector- Right Side (5) - Install

  32. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Nut (3) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  33. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  34. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Nut (4) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  35. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Rear Tire Front Air Deflector- Right Side (1) - Install

  37. Rear Tire Front Air Deflector Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Underbody Rear Air Deflector- Left Side (5) - Install

  39. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Nut (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  40. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Bolt (3) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  41. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Nut (4) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  42. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  43. GM5395705

    Rear Tire Front Air Deflector- Left Side (2) - Install

  44. Rear Tire Front Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  45. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.
  46. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
