Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

    NOTE:

    Before installing, the bushing must be correctly aligned and oriented. Mount orientation is critical for noise and vibration performance.

    Using the DT-50806  Bushing Remover/Installer (1), Install NEW differential carrier busing (2) into the differential carrier assembly.

    Differential Carrier Assembly (1) - Install

    Differential Carrier Front Bolt (1) - Install [2x]

  4. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Differential Carrier Nut (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Differential Carrier Rear Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  7. Remove the jack from under the differential carrier assembly.

    Position the rear wheel drive shaft (1) onto the rear axle shaft.

    NOTE:

    The rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer (1) and washers (2) are serviced as a rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer kit consisting of 2 bolts and 1 washer.

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  10. Install 3 NEW wheel drive shaft washers (2).
  11. Install and tighten the 6 NEW rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainers (1) in a crisscross pattern. Fastener Specifications

    Position the rear wheel drive shaft (1) onto the rear axle shaft.

    The rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer (1) and washers (2) are serviced as a rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer kit consisting of 2 bolts and 1 washer.

  14. Install 3 NEW wheel drive shaft washers (2).
  15. Install and tighten the 6 NEW rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainers (1) in a crisscross pattern. Fastener Specifications

    Apply a thin layer of grease to the transfer case output shaft splines. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  17. Loosely install a NEW propeller shaft hub clamp to the propeller shaft joint boot.
  18. Support and secure the propeller shaft (1) to a suitable hydraulic jack stand.
  19. Propeller Shaft (1) - Install

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.

  21. Propeller Shaft Bearing Support Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  22. Remove the hydraulic jack stand supporting the propeller shaft.

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  24. Align the relationship marks (2) made on the propeller shaft and the rear differential flange.
  25. Rear Propeller Shaft Bolt (1) - Install [3x]
  26. Rear Propeller Shaft Nut (3) - Loosely install [3x]
  27. Rear Propeller Shaft Bolt (1) - Tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Ensure that the drive shaft boot is completely seated in the output shaft groove prior to crimping the propeller shaft hub clamp (1).

  29. Using the DT-35910  Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (2), crimp the propeller shaft hub clamp (1) until the final crimped outer diameter (a) is 39 - 41 mm (1.54 - 1.61 in).

    Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement (1) - Install

  31. Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Exhaust Intermediate Underbody Heat Shield (2) - Install

  33. Exhaust Heat Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

    With the aid of an assistant, install the exhaust system to the vehicle.

    Catalytic Converter Gasket (2) - Install NEW

  35. Exhaust Muffler (1) - Install

    Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Rear Muffler Insulator-Right Side (3) - Install

  37. Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Intermediate Pipe Insulator-Right Side (2) - Install

    Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Rear Muffler Insulator-Left Side (3) - Install

  39. Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Intermediate Pipe Insulator-Left Side (2) - Install

    Catalytic Converter Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Floor Panel Reinforcement (1) - Install

  42. Floor Panel Number 4 Cross Bar Reinforcement Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

    Underbody Rear Air Deflector- Right Side (5) - Install

  44. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Plastic Nut (3) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  45. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  46. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Nut (4) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  47. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Screw (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Rear Tire Front Air Deflector- Right Side (1) - Install

  49. Rear Tire Front Air Deflector Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Underbody Rear Air Deflector- Left Side (5) - Install

  51. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Plastic Nut (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  52. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Bolt (3) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  53. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Nut (4) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  54. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Screw (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Rear Tire Front Air Deflector- Left Side (2) - Install

  56. Rear Tire Front Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Differential Carrier Drain Plug (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  58. Fill the differential carrier with axle lubricant.
  59. Check the differential fluid level. It should be even with the bottom of the fill plug hole to no lower than 2 mm (0.08 in) below the opening.

    Differential Carrier Fill Plug (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  61. Remove the drain pan.
  62. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.
  63. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
