Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  2. Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (RWD)

    { If equipped } Front Crossmember Brace Nut (1) - Remove [4x]

  4. { If equipped } Front Crossmember Brace (2) - Remove
  5. GM5396438

    Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Remove [5x]

  6. Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Retainer (2) - Remove [2x]
  7. GM5396453

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Remove

  8. Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Remove [2x]
  9. Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (3) - Remove
  10. GM5396496

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (3) - Remove

  11. Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Remove [2x]
  12. Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (1) - Remove
  13. GM5420502

    Front Compartment Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  14. Front Compartment Air Deflector (2) - Remove
  15. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer @ Lower Oil Pan - Disconnect
  16. GM5004101

    Lower Oil Pan Bolt (1) - Remove [20x]

  17. NOTE:

    Do not pry on the oil pan to lower crankcase extension as the sealing surface will become damaged.

  18. Locate the four threaded insert jack screw locations on the lower oil pan. Use four lower oil pan bolts in these locations, and tighten the bolts by hand 1 to 2 turn each in a uniform manner, rotating between bolts until the oil pan has full separation from the lower crankcase extension.
  19. Oil Pan (2) - Remove
  20. Remove jack screws from oil pan.

    CAUTION:

    After removing the oil pump flow control valve, ensure the entire valve has been removed and there is no debris left in the oil pump bore. Failure to ensure the oil pump bore is free from debris may result in engine damage.

    NOTE:

    The engine should be allowed to cool for 2 hours, or until the pump is near ambient temperature or there is a high risk of breaking the oil pump flow control solenoid valve off in the bore when attempting removal.

    Electrical Connector @ Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve - Disconnect

  22. Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Bolt (1) - Remove
  23. Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve (2) - Remove
