Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  2. Remove the oil fill cap.
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (L3B Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (L3B GE 47716)

    Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

  5. Lift up on the front of the intake manifold cover (2).

    Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Remove

    Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Remove

    Intake Manifold Cover Insulator (1) - Remove

    Fuel Feed Pipe Bolt (1) @ Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Pump - Remove

  10. GM5504092

    Using the J-41769  Fuel Line Quick Disconnect Tool, disconnect and reposition the fuel feed pipe (1).

  11. Evaporative Emission Pipe (2) - Disconnect and reposition

    Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (1) - Disconnect and reposition

  13. Retainer (2) - Unclip [3x]
  14. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (3) - Reposition

    Throttle Body Electrical Connector (1) - Disconnect

    Engine Wiring Harness Bolt (1) - Remove

  17. Electrical Connector (2) - Disconnect [2x]
  18. Retainer (3) - Unclip [4x]
  19. Engine Wiring Harness (4) - Reposition

    Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Pump Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]

  21. Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Pump (2) - Remove

    Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

  23. Intake Manifold Cover Stud (2) - Remove [3x]

    Upper Intake Manifold Cover (1) - Remove

  25. GM5517201

    Oil Level Indicator Tube Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove

  26. Oil Level Indicator Tube (2) - Remove

    Retainer Spring (1) - Release

  28. Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube (2) @ Throttle Body (3) - Remove

    Retainer (1) - Unclip

    Intake Manifold Bolt (1) - Remove [6x]

    Intake Manifold (1) - Remove

    Intake Manifold Gasket (3) - Remove and DISCARD [4x]

  33. Crankcase Vent Passage Seal (4) - Remove and DISCARD

    Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage [3x] - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

  35. Thermostat Bypass Pipe (2) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve - Remove
  36. Radiator Inlet Hose (3) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve - Remove
  37. Engine Oil Cooler Coolant Inlet Hose (4) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve - Remove

    Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe Bolt (2) - Remove

  39. GM5399499

    Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe Bolt (1) - Remove

  40. GM5399501

    Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

  41. Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe (2) - Reposition
  42. Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe Gasket (3) - Remove and DISCARD
  43. GM5399673

    Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

  44. Exhaust Manifold Outlet Pipe (2) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve - Remove
  45. Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Inlet Pipe (2) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve - Remove

    Electrical Connector (1) @ Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor - Disconnect

  47. Electrical Connector (2) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve - Disconnect [2x]

    Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve Bolt (1) - Remove [5x]

  49. GM5399689

    Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve (1) - Remove

  50. Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve Seal (2) - Remove and DISCARD

    Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.

  52. Knock Sensor Bolt (1) - Remove
  53. Knock Sensor (2) - Remove
