Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Verify the following conditions do not exist:
- Incorrect fluid level or condition - Coolant @ Surge Tank - Refer to: Loss of Coolant (LSY) , or Loss of Coolant (LT4) , or Loss of Coolant (LGY)
- Antifreeze Concentration - Incorrect
- G59 Engine Coolant Pump - Abnormal noise /Leaking/Stuck On/Visible Damage
- Hoses / Lines @ Cooling System - Leaking/Loose Clamps/Visible Damage
- Hoses / Lines @ G59 Engine Coolant Pump - Leaking/Loose Clamps/Visible Damage
- If a condition exists
Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Verify DTC U0672, U1348 is not set.
- If DTC U0672, U1348 is set and other DTCs are set
Refer to: DTC U1345-U1349
- If DTC U0672 is set and no other DTCs are set
Refer to: Circuit/System Testing
- Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set
- If DTC U0672, U1348 is set and other DTCs are set
- Verify DTC U131B is not set and no other DTCs are set.
- If DTC U131B is set and no other DTCs are set
Replace the component: G59 Engine Coolant Pump
- Go to next step: If the DTC is not set
- If DTC U131B is set and no other DTCs are set
- Verify DTC P26CE, P2B85, P2BA2, P2DE9, P2E82, P3071, P3072, P3073, P3074 is not set.
- If any of the DTCs are set
Replace the component: G59 Engine Coolant Pump
- Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set
- If any of the DTCs are set
- Verify DTC P3075, P3076 is not set.
- If any of the DTCs are set
- Engine - Idling - At normal operating temperature.
- Perform the following procedure/test: Engine Coolant Fill - Refer to: Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY GE 47716)
, or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY Static Fill)
, or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LGY Static Fill)
, or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LGY GE 47716)
, or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LT4 Static Fill)
, or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LT4 GE 47716)
Verify the condition does not exist: Fill Level = Low @ Surge Tank
- If a condition exists - Repair as necessary
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Replace the component: G59 Engine Coolant Pump
NOTE:For this test, the action may need to be repeated several times.
- Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set
- Engine - Idling - At normal operating temperature.
- Verify the scan tool parameter:
- Engine Coolant Pump Internal Status = Okay
- Engine Coolant Pump Stalled = No
- If not the specified state
Replace the component: G59 Engine Coolant Pump
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Verify the scan tool parameter: Desired Engine Coolant Pump Speed = Engine Coolant Pump Speed
- If not equal
Refer to: Circuit/System Testing
- Go to next step: If equal
- If not equal
- Verify the scan tool parameter: Engine Coolant Pump Supply Voltage Status = Okay
- If not the specified state
Refer to: Circuit/System Testing
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- If not the specified state
- Verify the scan tool parameter: Engine Coolant Pump Dry = No
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Perform the following procedure/test: Cooling System Leak Testing
Verify the procedure/test passes.
- If the procedure/test does not pass - Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If the procedure/test passes
- Replace the component: G59 Engine Coolant Pump
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Perform the scan tool control function: Engine Coolant Pump - Command the component to the maximum position/speed
Verify the scan tool parameter: Engine Coolant Pump Current = 0.6 to 79 A
- If not between 0.6 and 79 A
Refer to: Circuit/System Testing
- Go to next step: If between 0.6 and 79 A
- If not between 0.6 and 79 A
- Verify the scan tool parameter: Engine Coolant Pump Overtemperature = No
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Verify the component location is free of debris, clutter or any obstruction that may reduce airflow which could cause an overheat condition: G59 Engine Coolant Pump
- If a condition exists - Repair or replace as necessary
- If no condition exists - Replace the component: G59 Engine Coolant Pump
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Perform the scan tool control function: Engine Coolant Pump - Command the component to the maximum position/speed
Verify a condition does not exist with the component: G59 Engine Coolant Pump - Turns Off
Perform the action while monitoring the component:
- Wiggle the harness and connector: G59 Engine Coolant Pump
- Wiggle the harness and connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- If a condition exists
Repair as necessary - Wiring / Terminal(s) / Electrical Connector(s)
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Verify the DTC does not set.
- If the DTC sets
Refer to: Circuit/System Testing
- Go to next step: If the DTC is not set
- If the DTC sets
- All OK.
If the system has recently been serviced, it is possible that air is trapped in the system causing the condition or a DTC to set.
