Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
  3. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (LT4 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LT4 GE 47716)
  4. Remove both front wheelhouse liners. Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (Blackwing)

    Electrical Connector (1) - Disconnect @ Transmission Control Module - Transmission Control Module Replacement

  6. Detach the harness retainer (2)

    Remove the battery terminal (1) from the jump start post.

  8. Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove - Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement
  9. Detach necessary engine harness retainers and reposition the engine harness on the engine.

    Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing - Disconnect

  11. Heater Inlet Hose @ Heater Core - Disconnect - Heater Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement (LT4)
  12. Heater Outlet Hose @ Heater Core - Disconnect - Heater Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement (LT4)

    Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing - Disconnect

    Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose (2) - Disconnect - Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Replacement (LT4 Charge Air Cooler Front Manifold to Engine Radiator Intercooler Heat Exchanger)

  16. Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose - Remove - Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Replacement (LT4 Charge Air Cooler Coolant Pump to Charge Air Cooler Front Manifold)

    Fuel Feed Hose (1) @ Fuel Feed Pipe - Disconnect - Fuel Feed Front Hose Replacement

    Air Conditioning Compressor Hose - Disconnect - Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LT4)

  19. Remove the front tires and wheels. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (without J57) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (with J57)
  20. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  21. Front Cradle Shear Plate - Remove - Front Cradle Shear Plate Replacement (Blackwing)
  22. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (RWD)

    Electrical Connector @ Steering Gear - Disconnect [2x]

  24. Exhaust Muffler - Remove - Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LT4)
  25. Transmission - Remove - Transmission Replacement (RWD) , or Manual Transmission Removal and Installation

    Knock Sensor (1) - Disconnect

  27. Crankshaft Position Sensor (2) - Disconnect
  28. Oil Level Sensor (3) - Disconnect

    Front Wheel Speed Sensor Wiring Harness (1) - Disconnect [2x] - Front Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement (J57, J6H)

  30. Stabilizer Shaft Link @ Lower Control Arm - Disconnect - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (FE2) , or Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (FE3, FE4)
  31. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod @ Steering Knuckle - Disconnect [2x] - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (with Blackwing)
  32. Separate the steering knuckle from the lower ball joint. [2x] - Front Lower Control Front Link Replacement (RWD)
  33. Support the engine on the J 39580  engine support table and the J 39580-500  engine support table top.
  34. Remove the front and rear cradle fasteners. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (Blackwing)
  35. Remove the ground strap bolts at the rear of the cylinder heads.
  36. Remove the ground straps from the rear cylinder heads.
  37. Disconnect the electrical connector for the knock sensor, left side.
  38. Remove the engine harness retaining fasteners at the rear of the engine.
  39. NOTE:

    Visually inspect the wiring harness clearances while raising the vehicle.

  40. Raise the vehicle completely off of the engine and cradle.
  41. Install the J-41803-9  engine lift hooks to the engine.
  42. Remove the engine mount nuts.
  43. Using a engine hoist and the J-41803-9  engine lift hooks slowly raise the engine.
  44. Remove the engine from the cradle.
  45. Install the engine onto an engine stand and prepare for disassembly.
  46. Remove the engine hoist.
  47. Remove the J-41803-9  engine lift hooks from the engine.
