Installation Procedure

    Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear (3) - Install

  2. CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

  3. Steering Gear Bolt (2) - Install NEW [2x]
  4. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Steering Gear Nut (1) - Install [2x]

    Tighten

    1. First Pass: 58 N.m (43 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: (90 - 105 degrees)

    Engine Wiring Harness (1) @ Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear - Install

  7. Secure the engine wiring harness to the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear using a tie strap.
  8. Intermediate Steering Shaft @ Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear - Install - Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (RWD)

    Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod (1) @ Steering Knuckle - Install [2x] - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (without Blackwing) , or Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (with Blackwing) 

  10. Front Compartment Air Deflector (1) - Install - Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement (RWD) , or Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement (Blackwing)
  11. Program the power steering control module. Control Module References
  12. Measure and adjust the front toe. Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment
  13. Perform the following so the vehicle software relearns the steering center position:
    1. Raise the front wheels off the ground.
    2. Start the vehicle.
    3. Rotate steering wheel to the left lock position and hold tightly for 4 seconds.
    4. Rotate steering wheel to the right lock position and hold tightly for 4 seconds.
    5. Repeat steps 11.3 and 11.4.
    6. Lower the vehicle.
