Installation Procedure

    NOTE:

    Laser Etched or ID flats - Correct Camshaft Location - Bank 1 (F)

    Exhaust Camshaft - Right Side (1) - Install

    1. Make sure the camshaft flats with laser etched markings are straight up in relation to the cylinder head and that the crankshaft is in the stage 2 position. The crankshaft key way will be at approximately the 3 o'clock position. Timing Chain Alignment Diagram
    2. Ensure the flat is facing upward when installed to help when installing timing chains.
    2. NOTE:

    Laser Etched or ID flats - Correct Camshaft Location - Bank 1 (E)

  2. Intake Camshaft - Right Side (2) - Install
    1. Make sure the camshaft flats with laser etched markings are straight up in relation to the cylinder head and that the crankshaft is in the stage 2 position. The crankshaft key way will be at approximately the 3 o'clock position. Timing Chain Alignment Diagram
    2. Ensure the flat is facing upward when installed to help when installing timing chains.

    NOTE:
    • Many internal engine components will develop specific wear patterns on their friction surfaces.
    • Components MUST be separated, marked, or organized in a way to ensure installation to their original location and position. Take precautions in order to prevent interchanging of parts.
    • Tag or mark each part immediately when removed. Indicate location, direction, or orientation when necessary.

    Dowel Pin (1) - Install [2x]

  4. Camshaft Bearing Cap - Intermediate (2) - Install
  5. Camshaft Bearing Cap (3) - Install
  6. Camshaft Bearing Cap (4) - Install [2x]
  7. Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (5) - Install and hand tighten [14x]

  9. Camshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Install
  10. Camshaft Carrier Bolt (3) - Install and hand tighten [4x]
  11. Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (4) - Install and hand tighten

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  13. Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (3) - Tighten in sequence
    1. First Pass: 6 N.m (53 lb in)
    2. Final Pass: 45 degrees

    Camshaft Position Actuator (1) - Install [2x] - Camshaft Position Actuator Replacement - Bank 1
