Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
  2. Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  3. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY Static Fill)
  4. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection

    Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Tube (2) - Disconnect - Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Tube Replacement

    Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube (2) - Disconnect - Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube Replacement

  7. Radiator Outlet Hose @ Water Pump - Disconnect - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LSY)
  8. Radiator Inlet Hose - Remove - Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LSY)

    Air Conditioning Evaporative Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Refrigerant Heat Exchanger - Disconnect - Air Conditioning Evaporative Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose Replacement (LSY)

  10. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose @ Radiator Surge Tank - Disconnect - Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Replacement (LSY Radiator Surge Tank to Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe and Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Pipe) , or Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Replacement (LSY Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe to Radiator)
  11. Heater Inlet Hose - Remove - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LSY)
  12. Heater Outlet Hose - Remove - Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LSY)
  13. Intermediate Steering Shaft - Remove - Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (AWD) , or Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (RWD)

    Fuel Feed Pipe (1) - Disconnect - Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement

  15. Evaporative Emission Pipe - Disconnect - Evaporative Emission Pipe Replacement
  16. Engine Wiring Harness Fuse Block Bracket - Remove - Engine Wiring Harness Fuse Block Bracket Replacement

    Engine Wiring Harness Ground Bolt (1) - Remove

    Engine Wiring Harness Ground Bolt (1) - Remove

  19. Engine Control Module Electrical Connector - Disconnect - Engine Control Module Replacement
  20. Transmission Control Module Wiring Harness - Disconnect - Transmission Control Module Replacement

    Engine Wiring Harness Connector (1) - Disconnect

  22. Retainer (2) - Unclip [4x]

    Engine Wiring Harness Ground Bolt (1) - Remove

  24. Remove the engine wiring harness ground wire (2) from the front end upper tie bar extension.
  25. Reposition the engine wiring harness onto the engine.
  26. Front Bumper Fascia Support Brace - Remove - Front Bumper Fascia Support Brace Replacement (Without Radar) , or Front Bumper Fascia Support Brace Replacement (With Radar)
  27. Radiator Upper Bracket - Remove - Radiator Upper Bracket Replacement - Left Side (LGY, LSY)
  28. Front Compartment Air Deflector - Remove - Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement (AWD) , or Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement (RWD)
  29. Disconnect the front stabilizer links from the front stabilizer shaft. Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (FE2) , or Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (FE3, FE4)

    Front Brake Caliper Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]

    CAUTION:

    Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  31. Remove the brake caliper and support with heavy mechanics wire. (1)

    Steering Knuckle Nut (1) - Remove [2x]

  33. Steering Knuckle Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]
  34. Use a strap to secure the knuckle to the sway bar to prevent the axles from coming out.
  35. Propeller Shaft - Remove - Propeller Shaft Replacement (without LT4) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (AWD)

    Catalytic Converter Nut (1) - Remove [2x]

    Catalytic Converter Gasket (1) - Remove and DISCARD

  39. If equipped, Engine Block Heater - Disconnect
  40. Secure the vehicle body to the vehicle hoist using suitable straps or binders.

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]

  42. Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor and reposition harness

    Install GE-52200  engine support stand under the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.

  44. Carefully lower the vehicle until the drivetrain and front suspension cradle contacts the support table.
  45. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Front Bolt (2) - Remove [4x]
  46. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Rear Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

    Transmission Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  48. With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the body from the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.
  49. Ensure when lowering the engine, transmission and front suspension cradle, the following items are clear from the frame:
    • Vacuum lines
    • Steering knuckles
    • Electrical wiring harnesses
    • Oil cooler lines
  50. With the aid of an assistant, carefully lower the engine, transmission and front suspension cradle.
  51. Before separating the transmission, place a rubber block between the crank pulley and steering gear to prevent damage.

    Disconnect the steering gear electrical connectors. (1)

  53. Separate the transmission from the engine assembly. Transmission Replacement (AWD) , or Transmission Replacement (RWD)
  54. Remove straps from knuckles
  55. Remove front wheel drive shafts. [2x] Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side

    Engine Mount Nut - Left Side (1) - Remove - Engine Mount Replacement - Left Side

    Engine Mount Nut - Right Side (1) - Remove - Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side 

  58. Transfer components as necessary.
