Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief

    Oil Filler Cap (1) - Remove

  3. NOTE:

    Leave the oil filter in place, or oil will continue to drip.

  4. Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  5. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY Static Fill)

    Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube (1) - Remove - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Replacement 

  7. Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose - Remove - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement 
  8. Turbocharger Coolant Feed and Return Pipe - Remove - Turbocharger Coolant Feed and Return Pipe Replacement (LSY)

    Fuel Pump Cover (2) - Remove - Fuel Pump Cover Replacement

  10. Fuel Pump - Remove - Fuel Pump Replacement

    Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe (3) - Disengage [2x] - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

  12. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (2) @ Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe (3) - Reposition [2x]
  13. Ignition Coil - Remove - Ignition Coil Replacement
  14. Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Pump - Remove - Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Pump Replacement
  15. Remove forward most center camshaft carrier bolt as it will be obstructed by the EN-52462-A  Camshaft Alignment Tool installation.

    Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [2x] - Camshaft Sprocket Bolt Replacement

    Bolt (3, 4) - Loosen

    CAUTION:

    Hold the camshaft sprocket firmly and squarely during camshaft sprocket bolt removal/installation. Failure to do so may result in damage to the inside of the camshaft sprocket.

    Hold the intake camshaft sprocket (1) with hand from underneath the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2) and pull out the EN-52461-1  Holder and the intake camshaft sprocket (1) will drop down in hand so you can remove it.

    Hold the exhaust camshaft sprocket (1) with hand from underneath the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2) and pull out the EN-52461-1  Holder and the exhaust camshaft sprocket (1) will drop down in hand so you can remove it.

    Timing Chain (1) - Reposition

  21. Inspect the timing chain guides and replace if worn down to the base material.

    Loosen the 2 bolts (1, 4) of EN-52461-100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5).

  23. Remove the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5) along with the 2 EN-52461-100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2, 3) from the engine.

    Disconnect harness retainers as needed.

  25. Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Hose Clip Bracket Nut (1) - Remove [2x]
  26. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Pipe Bracket (2) - Remove [2x]

    Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe (3) - Engage [2x] - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

    Retainer (1) - Unclip [5x]

  29. Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Reposition away

    Engine Wiring Harness Conduit Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove

  31. Engine Wiring Harness Conduit Nut (2) - Remove
  32. Engine Wiring Harness Bracket (3) - Remove

    Camshaft Cover Stud (1) - Remove [14x]

  34. Camshaft Carrier Bolt (2) - Remove-M6 [4x]
  35. Camshaft Carrier Bolt (3) - Remove-M8 [4x]

    Camshaft Carrier (1) - Remove

  37. Camshaft Cover Gasket (2) - Remove and DISCARD
  38. Clean, inspect and overhaul the camshaft carrier as needed. Camshaft Carrier Overhaul
