Installation Procedure
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
- Ensure the EN-52462-A Camshaft Tool is installed prior to installing on the cylinder head, to ensure the camshafts are in the time position.
EN-46109 Guide Pins - Install
- The cylinder head and camshaft carrier sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- Install and align the camshaft carrier to cylinder head within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
- The camshaft carrier must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.
- Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
- Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in) bead of RTV (4) to the top and bottom of camshaft cover gasket to fill the T-joint. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Camshaft Cover Gasket (2) - Install NEW
Remove the EN-52462-A Camshaft Tool to install and tighten the bolts, then reinstall EN-52462-A Camshaft Tool to keep camshafts in time position.
- Camshaft Carrier Bolt - M8 (3) - Install and hand tighten [5x]
- Remove the EN-46109 Guide Pins
- Camshaft Carrier Stud (1) - Install and hand tighten [14x]
- Camshaft Carrier Bolt - M6 (2) - Install and hand tighten [4x]

CAUTION:Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution .
Camshaft Carrier Bolt - M8 (3) - Tighten in sequence [5x] 36 N.m (27 lb ft)
- Camshaft Carrier Stud (1) - Tighten in sequence [14x] 15 N.m (11 lb ft)
- Camshaft Carrier Bolt - M6 (2) - Tighten in sequence [4x] 15 N.m (11 lb ft)
- Install harness retainers as needed.
Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Pipe Bracket (2) - Install [2x]
- Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Hose Clip Bracket Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] 9 N.m (80 lb in)
Engine Wiring Harness Bracket (3) - Install
- Engine Wiring Harness Conduit Nut (2) - Install and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in)
- Engine Wiring Harness Conduit Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in)
Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Reposition
- Retainer (1) - Clip [5x]
- Connect harness retainers as needed.
- Raise the vehicle.
- NOTE:
The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle (1) and twisting to locked position. The slide part (4) to be installed to the flex plate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.
Ensure the timing pin (3) of the EN-52476 Flywheel Holding Tool (2) is installed to the automatic transmission flex plate.
Install the EN-52461 Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5) along with the 2 EN-52461 Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2, 3) to the camshaft carrier.
- Tighten the 2 bolts (1, 4) of EN-52461-100 Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool.
- CAUTION:
Hold the camshaft sprocket firmly and squarely during camshaft sprocket bolt removal/installation. Failure to do so may result in damage to the inside of the camshaft sprocket.
Hold the intake camshaft sprocket (1) with hands from underneath the EN-52461 Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool and install the EN-52461-1 Holder into the intake camshaft sprocket to hold it securely before installing the camshaft sprocket bolt.
- Line up intake camshaft sprocket (1) with alignment marks, as you install them on chain and the housing which should of been done on removal.
Hold the exhaust camshaft sprocket (1) with hands from underneath the EN-52461 Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool and install the EN-52461-1 Holder into the exhaust camshaft sprocket to hold it securely before installing the camshaft sprocket bolt (1).
- Line up exhaust camshaft sprocket (1) with alignment marks, as you install them on chain and the housing which should of been done on removal.
Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten [2x] - Camshaft Sprocket Bolt Replacement
- Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Pump - Install - Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Pump Replacement
- Ignition Coil - Install - Ignition Coil Replacement
- Fuel Pump - Install - Fuel Pump Replacement
Fuel Pump Cover (2) - Install - Fuel Pump Cover Replacement
- Turbocharger Coolant Feed and Return Pipe - Install - Turbocharger Coolant Feed and Return Pipe Replacement (LSY)
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose - Install - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement
Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe (3) - Install - Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe Replacement (LSY)
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Pipe Bracket - Install
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (2) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Pipe Bracket - Install
Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Wiring Harness - Install
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (1) @ Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose - Install
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (3) @ Fuel Pump Cover - Install
Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube (1) - Install - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Replacement
- Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
- Install the oil fill cap.
- Fill the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY Static Fill)
- Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Perform the throttle body idle air flow compensation reset. Throttle Body Idle Air Flow Compensation Reset
- Inspect for fuel leaks using the following procedure:
- Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
- Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
- Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
- Inspect for fuel leaks.
- Start the engine and check for coolant leaks.
- Perform the engine oil life reset. GM Oil Life System Resetting (Without Scan Tool) , or GM Oil Life System Resetting (With Scan Tool)
A small amount of adhesive in the corners will help keep the gasket in place.
