Installation Procedure
Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Washer (1) - Install NEW
Rear Wheel Drive Shaft (1) - Install
- NOTE:
The rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer (2) and washers (1) are serviced as a rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer kit consisting of 2 bolts and 1 washer.
If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components.
- Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation.
- Install 3 NEW wheel drive shaft flange washers (1).
- Install NEW and tighten the 6 rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainers (2) in a crisscross pattern.
- First Pass: 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
- Final Pass: 40 - 50 degrees
- Have an assistant apply the brakes.
Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (1) - Install NEW and tighten
- First Pass: 150 N.m (111 lb ft)
- Second Pass: loosen 45 degrees
- Final Pass: 270 N.m (199 lb ft)
- Rear Suspension Lower Control Arm Cover - Install - Rear Suspension Lower Control Arm Cover Replacement
- Install the right rear tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (without J57) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (with J57)
Exhaust Muffler (1) - Install - Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LT4)
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
