Installation Procedure

    Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Seal (1) - Install NEW

  2. Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Retaining Ring (2) - Install NEW
  3. Apply a small amount of grease to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft splines. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    Ensure that the front wheel drive half shaft (1) is securely engaged to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft.

    Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft (1) - Install

  5. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod @ Steering Knuckle - Install - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (without Blackwing) , or Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (with Blackwing)
  6. Front Suspension Strut @ Steering Knuckle - Install - Strut Assembly Removal and Installation (FE2, FE3, witout F55) , or Strut Assembly Removal and Installation (FE3, FE4, with F55)
  7. Have an assistant apply the brakes.

    CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Front Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (1) - Install NEW and tighten

    1. First Pass: 150 N.m (111 lb ft)
    2. Second Pass: loosen 45 degrees
    3. Final Pass: 270 N.m (199 lb ft)
  9. Engine Front Splash Shield - Install - Engine Front Splash Shield Replacement (AWD) , or Engine Front Splash Shield Replacement (RWD)
  10. Install the left front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (without J57) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (with J57)
  11. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
