Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If reinstalling the brake rotor, clean any corrosion and debris from the wheel hub mating surface of the brake rotor using the CH-41013 Rotor Resurfacing Kit.
- Clean the friction surfaces of the brake rotor with soap and water or denatured alcohol and allow to air dry.
- If necessary, carefully remove any loose material and debris from the cross-drilled holes in the brake rotor with a 5 mm (3/16 in) diameter tool.
- Using the CH-42450-A Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit, clean any corrosion and debris from the rotor mating surface of the wheel hub.
Front Brake Rotor (1) - Install
- Front Brake Rotor Bolt (2) - Install and tighten 9 N.m (80 lb in)
Front Brake Caliper (1) - Install
- If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
- Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Front Brake Caliper Bracket Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Front Brake Caliper Replacement (J57, J6H)
Front Brake Hose (2) - Install
- Front Brake Hose Fitting Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Front Brake Hose Replacement (J57, J6H)
- Install the front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (without J57) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (with J57)
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Burnish the brake pads and rotors.
- Select a smooth road with little or no traffic.
- Accelerate the vehicle to 48 km/h (30 mph).
- Using moderate to firm pressure, apply the brakes to bring the vehicle to a stop. Do not allow the brakes to lock.
- Repeat steps 15.2 and 15.3 until approximately 20 stops have been completed. Allow sufficient cooling periods between stops in order to properly burnish the brake pads and rotors.
NOTE:Use care to avoid overheating the brakes while performing this step.
NOTE:
Whenever the brake rotor has been separated from the hub/axle flange, any rust or contaminates should be cleaned from the hub/axle flange and the brake rotor mating surfaces. Failure to do this may result in excessive assembled lateral runout (LRO) of the brake rotor, which could lead to brake pulsation.
NOTE:
Do not clean the friction surfaces of the brake rotor with chemical brake cleaners.
NOTE:
Do not pry against the cross-drilled holes in the brake rotor to remove loose material and debris.
CAUTION:
