Manual Transmission Description and Operation: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Manual transmissions (1) are identified by the number of forward gears and the measured distance between the centerline of the output shaft and the counter gear.
The 6-speed manual transmission (1) RPO: MG9 or MJK incorporates the following features:
- An aluminum case
- Fully synchronized gearing with an enhanced synchronizer cone arrangement:
- Triple-cone: FIRST, SECOND
- Double-cone: THIRD, FOURTH, FIFTH, SIXTH, REVERSE
- An internal shift rail mechanism
- A remote transmission shift control mounted forward of the transmission
- An external transmission shift rod enabling the rearward mount location of the transmission shift control
- Tapered roller bearings supporting the main shaft and counter shaft
- Caged roller bearings under all speed gears
- Solenoid inhibit of SECOND and THIRD gears
- Solenoid inhibit of REVERSE gear during predefined forward motion
These features combine to yield a rugged, reliable system capable of handling input torques of 881 N.m (650 lb ft) for RPO: MJK.
The gear ratios are as follows:
| Gear | MJK Ratio (: 1) |
|---|---|
| 1st Gear | 2.29 |
| 2nd Gear | 1.61 |
| 3rd Gear | 1.21 |
| 4th Gear | 1.00 |
| 5th Gear | 0.82 |
| 6th Gear | 0.54 |
| Reverse | 3.11 |
