Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  2. GM5442548

    Clean the block thread holes with a tap before installation of the timing chain tensioner.

  3. Timing Chain Tensioner (1) - Install
  4. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt (2) - Install [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Loosen the two bolts (1, 2) from the EN-52461 - 1 Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool.

  7. Slide the 2 EN-52461 - 1 Holder (3) out of the camshaft sprockets.

    Loosen the 2 bolts (1, 4) of EN-52461 - 100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5).

  9. Remove the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5) along with the 2 EN-52461 - 100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2, 3) from the engine.

    EN-955-10A  Locking Pin (1) - Remove

    NOTE:
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
    • The engine front lower cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the engine front lower cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The engine front lower cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.

    Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the engine front cover. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  12. Crankshaft Balancer Bolt - Remove and DISCARD

    Install EN-52440  Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Front (2) to the crankshaft.

  14. Install the engine front cover (1) backwards using the 2 tabs to size the seal.

    Remove the engine front cover (1) after seal is sized.

  16. Install - EN-52483  Guide Pins (2)
  17. Engine Front Cover (1) - Install
  18. EN-52440  Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Front (3) - Remove

    Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [9x]

  20. Remove the EN-52483  Guide Pins (3).
  21. Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [9x] - Fastener Specifications

    Remove the EN-52462 - A  Camshaft Tool (1) by rotating the levers in direction of arrows.

    Loosen and disengage the bolt (2) from EN-52462-A  Camshaft Alignment Tool (1).

    Clean and apply sealant to the camshaft cover opening plugs (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  26. Camshaft Cover Opening Plug (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Wiring Harness (1) @ Camshaft Carrier - Install

  28. Install the 3 wiring harness reatiners.

    NOTE:
    • The timing chain upper cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the timing chain upper cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The timing chain upper cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    Apply approximately a 5 mm (0.2 in) thick bead of sealant (2) on both sides between the camshaft housing and the cylinder head. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

  30. Check that the 2 Pins (1) are in the camshaft housing or in the timing chain upper cover.

    Timing Belt Front Upper Cover Seal (1) - Install NEW

  32. Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Install

    Timing Chain Upper Cover BoltM6 (3) - Install and tighten in sequence - Fastener Specifications

  34. Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt M5 (2) - Install and tighten in sequence [11x] - Fastener Specifications

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  36. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  37. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  39. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  40. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Wiring Harness (3) - Reposition

  42. Retainer (1) @ Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Engage [6x]
  43. Connect the 2 electrical connectors to the camshaft position actuator valve solenoids.
  44. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    NOTE:

    The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle (1) and twisting to locked position. The slide part (4) to be installed to the flex plate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.

    Retract the timing pin (3) using the handle (1) of the EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2).

  46. Ensure to engage the slide (4) of the EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2) into the automatic transmission flexplate.
  47. Lower the vehicle.

    Crankshaft Balancer (2) - Install

  49. Crankshaft Balancer Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Accessory Drive Primary Belt (1) - Install

    Use a suitable tool to rotate the drive belt tensioner (1) counterclockwise and hold.

  52. Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner.
  53. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    NOTE:

    The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle (1) and twisting to locked position. The slide part (4) to be installed to the flex plate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.

    EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2) - Remove

    Starter (3) - Install

  56. Starter Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  57. Starter Stud (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (2) - Install

  59. Battery Positive Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Solenoid - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Electrical Connector (1) - Connect

    Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (3) - Install

  62. Battery Negative Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Stud - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  63. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) - Engage [2x]
  64. Lower the vehicle.

    Oil Level Indicator Tube Seal (2) - Install NEW

  66. Oil Level Indicator Tube (1) - Install

    Oil Level Indicator Tube Bracket Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  68. Electrical Connector (1) @ Oil Level Indicator Tube (3) - Clip

    Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (2) - Install

  72. Connect the quick disconnects (1) and install the retainer (3). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install

    NOTE:

    Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.

    Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1) engaging the intake manifold cover retainers to the intake manifold cover studs.

  75. Install the oil fill cap.
  76. Check and top off engine oil as required.

  77. Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
