Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. GM5318363

    Camshaft Position Actuator - Exhaust (3) - Install

  2. NOTE:

    Hold the camshaft position actuator while engaging the EN-52461 - 1  Holder (2) to the actuator to prevent it from dropping.

  3. Push the EN-52461 - 1  Holder (2) toward the engine.

    NOTE:

    Lubricate under the washer surface.

    Lubricate the camshaft sprocket bolts (1) with clean engine oil where indicated. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    Only do the exhaust side.

    Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten

    EN-52436  Timing Chain Tensioner Retention Tool (1) @ Timing Chain (2) - Remove

  7. Check that the EN-52461 - 1  Holder (1) sits correctly in the hole of the exhaust camshaft sprocket.

    Rotate the EN-52461 - 1  Holder (1) counter clockwise.

  9. While holding the EN-52461 - 1  Holder in the counter clockwise position to 6 N.m (53 lb in), tighten the bolt (3) just enough to hold the EN-52461 - 1  Holder in place.
  10. Exhaust Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (2) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Bolt (1, 2) - Loosen

  12. Slide the 2 EN-52461 - 1  Holder (3) out of the camshaft sprockets.

    Loosen the 2 bolts (1, 4) of EN-52461 - 100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5).

  14. Remove the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5) along with the 2 EN-52461 - 100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2, 3) from the engine.

    Remove the EN-52462 - A  Camshaft Tool (1) by rotating the levers in direction of arrows.

    Loosen and disengage the bolt (2) from EN-52462-A  Camshaft Alignment Tool (1).

    Clean and apply sealant to the camshaft cover opening plugs (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  19. Camshaft Cover Opening Plug (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Reposition

  21. Retainer (1) - Install [3x]
  22. Clean all sealing surfaces.

    NOTE:
    • The timing chain upper cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the timing chain upper cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The timing chain upper cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    Apply approximately a 5 mm (0.2 in) thick bead of sealant (2) on both sides between the camshaft housing and the cylinder head T joint. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  24. Check that the 2 Pins (1) are in the camshaft housing or in the timing chain upper cover.

    Timing Belt Front Upper Cover Seal (1) - Install NEW

  26. Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Install

    Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt-M6 (3) - Install and tighten in sequence - Fastener Specifications

  28. Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt-M5 (2) - Install and tighten in sequence [11x] - Fastener Specifications

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  30. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  31. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  33. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  34. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Wiring Harness (3) - Reposition

  36. Retainer (1) @ Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Engage [6x]
  37. Connect the 2 electrical connectors to the camshaft position actuator valve solenoids.

    Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (2) - Install

  39. Connect the quick disconnects (1) and install the 2 retainers (3). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
  40. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    NOTE:

    The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle (1) and twisting to locked position. The slide part (4) to be installed to the flex plate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.

    EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2) - Remove

    Starter (3) - Install

  43. Starter Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  44. Starter Stud (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (2) - Install

  46. Battery Positive Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Solenoid - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Electrical Connector (1) - Connect

    Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (3) - Install

  49. Battery Negative Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Stud - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  50. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) - Engage [2x]
  51. Lower the vehicle.

    Oil Level Indicator Tube Seal (2) - Install NEW

  53. Oil Level Indicator Tube (1) - Install

    Oil Level Indicator Tube Bracket Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  55. Electrical Connector (1) @ Oil Level Indicator Tube (3) - Clip

    Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install

    NOTE:

    Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.

    Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1).

  60. Install the oil fill cap.
  61. Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
