Installation Procedure

  1. GM5896264
    NOTE:

    Ensure the proper camshaft position actuator is installed in the correct position. The dowel pin on the camshaft position actuator must be aligned with the slot in the camshaft nose for reassembly. Failure to install the proper camshaft position actuator can effect engine performance and set an engine code.

    Install the camshaft position actuator (1) by inserting the actuator between the timing chain and front cover. While pushing the actuator into the tensioned side of the chain, tilt the actuator while engaging the chain, aligning the marks on the chain and place the actuator in the fully seated position.

  2. Carefully pry the camshaft forward and move the EN-49982 - 1  Retainers backward via the slot to reengage the position actuator to the camshaft. The dowel pin on the camshaft position actuator must be aligned with the slot in the camshaft nose for reassembly.

    Camshaft Position Actuator Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten

    Use an opened end wrench on the cast hexagonal portion (1) rotate the camshaft toward the intake camshaft while pulling up on the handle of the EN-49982 - 2  Retainer (2).

  5. Remove the EN-49982 - 2  Retainer (2).

    Camshaft Position Actuator Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Loosen the wingnut (1) to open the clamping area of EN-49982 - 1  Retainer

  8. Loosen the thumbscrew (3) and remove the EN-49982 - 1  Retainer (2).

    Camshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Install

  10. Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve (2) - Install

  12. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  13. Connect the electrical connector.

    Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve (2) - Install

  15. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  16. Connect the electrical connector.

    Camshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install

  18. Camshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  19. Connect the electrical connector.

    Camshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install

  21. Camshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  22. Connect the electrical connector.

    Apply RTV silicone sealant on the engine front cover split lines (1). The required thickness of the sealing bead is 8 mm (0.3150 in) by 4 mm (0.1575 in). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Camshaft Cover Seal (2) - Install NEW

    Camshaft Housing Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten in sequence [13x] - Fastener Specifications

    Remove the 3 EN-46101  Spark Plug Tube Seal Guides (1).

    Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Install

    Ignition Coil (2) - Install

  31. Ignition Coil Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  32. Connect the electrical connectors.

    Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (4) - Install

  34. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (3) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Pipe Bracket - Connect

    Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (1) - Install

    Retainer Spring (4) - Engage

  37. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
  38. Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose (2) - Install
  39. Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose Clamp (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Install the NEW positive crankcase ventilation fresh air tube (2) and secure the 2 positive crankcase ventilation tube connectors (1).

    Lower Intake Manifold Gasket (2) - Install NEW [6x]

    If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  44. Lower Intake Manifold Bolt (1) - Install and tighten in sequence [6x] - Fastener Specifications
  45. Connect all electrical connectors.

    Positive Crankcase Ventilation Foul Air Tube (2) - Install

  47. Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Connector (1) - Connect [2x] - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Wiring Harness (3) - Install

  51. Engine Rear Noise Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Charge Air Cooler Cover Seal (3) - Install NEW [2x]

  55. Charge Air Cooler Cover (1) - Install

    Charge Air Cooler Cover Bolt (2) - Install and hand tighten [12x]

  57. Charge Air Cooler Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
  58. Charge Air Cooler Bolt (1) & Charge Air Cooler Cover Bolt [2x] - Tighten in sequence [14x] - Fastener Specifications
  59. Connect the electrical connectors.

  69. Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Retainer (3) - Engage
  70. Radiator Inlet Hose Clip (Shown Open) (1) - Connect

    Air Cleaner Assembly (2) - Install

  92. Air Cleaner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  93. Install all retainers and wiring harnesses to the air cleaner assembly as necessary.
  94. Connect the 2 mass airflow sensor electrical connectors.

  96. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
  97. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (2) - Install

  103. Connect the electrical connectors.

  105. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (4) @ Engine Radiator - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
  106. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Control Module Bracket - Install
  107. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

    Oil Filler Cap - Remove

  109. Intake Manifold Cover (2) - Install
  110. Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  116. Install the engine wire harness retainers to the front end sheet metal cross brace.
  117. Front Suspension Strut Upper Mounting Nut- Left Side (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  118. Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Radiator Air Upper Baffle (3) - Install

  120. Radiator Air Upper Baffle Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  121. Radiator Air Upper Baffle Retainer (1) - Install [5x]

    Plenum Front Panel (1) - Install - Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (with Blackwing) , or Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (without Blackwing)

  123. Fill the charge air cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 GE 47716)
