Circuit/System Testing

- Ignition OFF, all vehicle systems Off
- Verify the Battery passes a battery test. Refer to Battery Inspection/Test .
- If the Battery does not pass the test
Replace the Battery.
- Go to next step: If the Battery passes the test
- If the Battery does not pass the test
- Remove the drive belts. Refer to.
- Accessory Drive Primary Belt Replacement for the 2.0L engines
- Accessory Drive Primary Belt Replacement for the 2.7L engine
- Verify the engine cranks slowly while cranking the engine.
- If the engine cranks at normal speed
Inspect the engine and belt drive system for mechanical binding, seized generator etc.
- Go to next step: If the engine cranks slowly
- If the engine cranks at normal speed
- Test for less than 900 mV between terminal A X2 at the X50D Fuse Block - Battery and terminal A X4 at the X50A Fuse Block - Underhood while cranking the engine.
- If 900 mV or greater
Replace the positive battery cable.
- Go to next step: If less than 500 mV
- If 900 mV or greater
- Test for less than 500 mV between terminal A X4 at the X50A Fuse Block - Underhood and terminal A X2 at the M64 Starter Motor while cranking the engine.
- If 500 mV or greater
Replace the Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable Replacement.
- Go to next step: If less than 500 mV
- If 500 mV or greater
- Test for less than 500 mV between the negative battery cable and the M64 Starter Motor case while cranking the engine.
- If 500 mV or greater
Replace the negative battery cable.
- Go to next step: If less than 500 mV
- If 500 mV or greater
- Replace the M64 Starter Motor.
