Installation Procedure
- CAUTION:
When installing the seal, ensure the seal lip is firmly seated against the case bore surface. Do not allow the seal lip to be crushed, or a leak may result.
CAUTION:Refer to Seal Reuse Caution .
Using the DT-47770 Seal Installer (1) install the NEW manual shift shaft seal (2).
Manual Shift Shaft (1) - Remove
Manual Shift Shaft Pin (1) - Install NEW
- Manual Shift Detent Lever Hub Pin (2) - Install NEW
Clutch Housing Fluid Passage Seal (1) - Install NEW
- CAUTION:
Use care when handling the control valve body assembly. If dropped, damage to the control solenoid valve body assembly internal components may result.
Control Valve Body Assembly (1) - Install
- Using the DT-48285 Valve Body Torx Plus Socket, loosely install the control valve solenoid body bolts.
- Control Valve Solenoid Body Bolt (2) - Tighten [7x] - Fastener Specifications
- Control Valve Solenoid Body Bolt (3) - Tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Manual Valve (4) - Connect
Manual Shift Detent Lever Spring (1) - Install
- Manual Shift Detent Lever Spring Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Electrical Connector @ Automatic Transmission Control Wiring Harness (3) - Connect
- Electrical Connector @ Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness (4) - Connect
- NOTE:
Ensure the driven sprocket locking tab is in the unlocked position before installing the sprocket.
The driven sprocket (1) locking tab is located on the back of the sprocket and faces the pump indicated by arrow.
- Install the drive link (chain) to the driven sprocket (1) and then install the driven sprocket (1) to the oil pump shaft.
- Rotate the sprocket as shown and push down on the tab until it locks the driven sprocket (1) in place.
- Automatic Transmission Fluid Baffle (2) - Install
- Automatic Transmission Fluid Baffle Bolt (3) - Install NEW and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- WARNING:
The torque converter must be held to the torque converter housing by a retaining device such as shipping brackets. Without the retaining device, the torque converter may slide forward, disengaging the oil pump, or may fall completely out of the transmission causing personal injury and/or property damage.
Ensure that the DT-21366 Converter Holding Strap installed during transmission removal secures the torque converter (3) into the transmission.
- Rotate the transmission to its original position then secure it with the locking pin.
- Remove the transmission from the DT-48989 Holding Fixture (2).
- Transmission - Install - Transmission Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) , or Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive)
Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter (1) - Install - Automatic Transmission Fluid, Fluid Pan and/or Filter Replacement
Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Lever (2) - Install
- Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Fill the transmission to the proper level with NEW transmission fluid. Transmission Fluid Fill Procedure
- Lower the vehicle.
- Perform the necessary programming and setup procedure: Q77 Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Characterization Programming (8L45) , or Q77 Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Characterization Programming (10L60)
- Pressure regulating solenoid replacement
- Valve body repair or replacement
- Any service/repair in response to a shift quality concern
- Any internal transmission service, repair, overhaul, or replacement
- Torque converter replacement
- Transmission control module replacement
- Transmission assembly replacement
- Perform the necessary programming and setup procedure: Transmission Service Fast Learn Procedure
- Check the transmission range selector lever in all gear selections for proper operation and perform range selector lever cable adjustment if needed. Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment

This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
The Service Fast Learn procedure must be performed when one of the following repairs have been made to the vehicle. Failure to perform the procedure after one of the following repairs may result in poor transmission performance, as well as transmission DTCs being set:
